A recent stay (first weekend in June) yielded a junior suite upgrade without asking. No breakfast coupons were provided, but I didn't bother arguing (as I was departing at 5:30a from the hotel after an 11:00p check-in). Still waiting for the points/miles to post...

Well, the room was very nice and we were upgraded without any problem. However, they refused to give us breakfast and said they didn't have to even when I showed them the gold benefits. I called the ast. mgr. who flatly refused to provide anything for breakfast even though the reservation agent knew I was expecting free breakfast. Service in the casino was non existant and it wasa mad house trying to check out.

Like all the Park Place properties (Hilton, Bally's, Flamingos, etc. Casinos) they do not honor the free breakfast benefit, so I don't even ask. It's still one of the better Casino Hotels in Reno.

That's what we usually do but after reading about people having trouble getting points from this Hilton posted I was going to try and get a receipt. But, yes we finally walked out rather than deal with the line.

Looking for comments on Reno Hilton

Doing a quick mini-vacation to the Reno Hilton (FLL-RNO on DL for $259-KV class). Noticed there is a travel agency offering discount nights at that hotel ($50 vs $150 via Hilton). Any feedback on hotel would be appreciated. Also looking for a nice restaurant one night somewhere in town (steak place preferred). Hopefully will be able to use my HHONORS Gold (soon to be Diamond) to upgrade - any suggestions on rooms/locations?

Have not stayed at the Reno Hilton so no input on the hotel. Do be prepared for Reno to be quite a bit different than Las Vegas. It's got a very small town feeling. As for a great steak place, I heartily recommend Harrah's Steak House. It's located in the lower level of the hotel. Nicely decorated and insulated from casino noise. We had lunch there and were so impressed by their steaks that we came back for dinner the following night.

I like the hotel. It is very large, with 4-5 restaurants, a large shopping arcade, and a large casino. The rooms are more than adequate and the rates, especially midweek, are excellent.

Because of its size, if you check in at the wrong time, there can be a very long line. Same with check-out, so try to use express check-out.

The hotel is very close to the airport. The negative is that it is not close to anything else - if you go to a show or out to dinner, you will either need a car or a taxi. If you like to plane-watch, ask for a room facing the airport; you can see everything.

It's been 2 years, but I don't remember the Reno Hilton as anything memorable - either bad or good. It is isolated, so you will need a rental or taxis to get anywhere. I was there on business, and I do remember alot of kids running around in the public areas (there is a arcade in the shopping area - I was a little put off with the metal detectors at the doors to the arcade!) Although not a Hilton, I thought the Silver Legacy in downtown was very nice. As noted by NJRetiree, Reno is nothing like Vegas - very little glitz. The mountains ringing the city are a nice view though.

The Reno Hilton has a shuttle bus to the Flamingo (?) Hilton on the strip as well as to the airport so one isn't so isolated.

If you do get a car, I'd recommend going to Cattleman's which is some 15-20 miles south of the city on US 395 and well worth the drive. 25 oz T-bones and 32 oz Porterhouse steaks including all you can eat salad & some fixin's in the $17-range.

The place is fun to sit around and watch when Shotgun News has a show there.

For steak, Harrah's Steak House is a good restaurant. Bistro Roxy in the ElDorado/Silver Legacy is also a good place to dine.

We stayed at the Reno Hilton a couple of years ago, and found it a good hotel for the area, and the rates couldn't be better, $29 per night, and got upgraded to a massive suite when they found the lock on our reserved room was broken. Suggest you call them on their 800 number, as they often seem to have unannounced specials which may be better than your TA can find for you. I've seen $39-49 rates from them recently, so it might be worth a call. The hotel is several blocks from the Reno airport, with good free shuttle service, and a short drive to downtown Reno. Close to the approaches to the Lake Tahoe area, which is beautiful, and the casino in South Lake Tahoe.

Good Luck!!

I like the Reno Hilton close to the airport. I'm able to get $39/night rates on the website and it counts towards stays and points. Rooms are quite large and the casino is one of the best in the area with a large open area over the casino floor. It also seems less noisy. The only drawback is the distance from downtown, but there is a shuttle. I even enjoyed the golf driving range out into a pond. My kids enjoyed all of the games in the arcade.

800.736.6386 for Reno Hilton reservations. They accept Entertainment Card if less than 80% full.

The reason for metal detectors at the kids arcade is because they let gangs run loose on the lower level of the hotel. I'll never understand it, but believe the problem has been resolved.

Cattlemans serves USDA inspected beef, or whatever the lowest level you can legally sell in a diner. Harrah's is USDA prime. You decide. Suggest you pass on the Hilton Steak House.

I've stayed in about all the different type rooms and suites here. They should give you a modest upgrade and you'll be fine. This is a Park Place property.

I vote for Harrah's Steak House too. Bong and Arlen are the best waiters.

Upgrades at the Reno Hilton depend on the desk clerk. Gold HHonors usually get a western decor, large room with a king or two doubles plus a sofa. As I Diamond, I frequently get a "petite" suite, and they are very nice, some with a separate living room area. Stay away from the hospitality suites by the elevator. Noisy rooms with Murphy beds.

If you're not offered an upgrade, ask the desk clerk to check with a supervisor to see if an upgrade is available.

The desk clerks will tell you "no HHonors points if your room rate is less than $49," but you'll get the points if you send an e-mail to HHonors for a missing stay. The disadvantage of express checkout is that you leave the hotel without a receipt in hand, which you might have to fax in if the e-mail doesn't work.

I've never gotten a breakfast coupon at this property.

If you're planning on returning, sign up for the Club Magic casino card and you'll then be on the mailing list for all kinds of offers. My favorite is the one that comes out in the dead of winter. Room rates of $29 with $20 back in slot or table game credit.

You can still get HHonors points at the Flamingo Reno (no longer a Hilton) but the property is always up for sale and in need of a steam cleaning. A $24 million deal fell through earlier this year and a desk clerk told me it is now on the block for $9 million.

Good luck while you're in town.
