If one stays at the Kensington, remember that the rooms are miniscule. A hint: use the back stairs to enter the Executive Lounge; during a week's stay, no one ever questioned if I was supposed to be there (I was).

Also, I am a big fan of the Hilton Park Lane.

Forget this over-priced over-blown place. The Front Desk staff (incl the very bored concierge, FD manager, the HH manager etc) constitute the most concentrated group of snotty, snooty stuck-up B*ASRDRDS I have ever seen in hotel employment. They love saying "No", "We dont do that", "No upgrades for Diamonds" etc. They always managed to over charge me requiring mucho extra trips-n-time to have my bill corrected.

As for the bar.........it really reeks of heavy cigar and cigarette smoke, and faces a noisy side street allowing diesel exhaust to enter every time the door opens from the idling nearby taxis and trucks. The cheapest martini was about GBP12 (ie US$22 incl VAT).

The Kensington Hilton is quite nice and the Metropole Hilton is even nicer (and both upgrade HH Golds and Diamonds........with a smile).

I stayed at the Langham in August and I did enjoy my stay after 24 hours of intensive negotiating to have my rights honoured and being provided with a "Concierge Club" room and lounge access.

Now, the thing is, I heard a lot better things about The Langham Hilton than I did about Park Lane, so... I wouldn't stay there.

Dont bother. You will be wasting your time. When I checked in I tried to point out the HH Diamond upgrade T&C to (1) the check-in clerk, (2) the FD manager, (3) the bored concierge etc. They all yawned, said "Sorry we dont do that...." etc.

Why not try the Hilton website since their rates are always better than rack rates? Alternatively, you might want to check out some package deals offered by your nearest travel agency.

CAll them directly, they should give you a rate around 178GBP which beats the best website rate by about the same amount.

Sorry Mikey, but I have been online and phones I was ask the opinions of other FTers as they may have seen special offers on other websites or know of a good deal through an agent.
What is FT for in your opinion? I think it as about giving and ASKING for help. Look at all the RTW questions as most of them are about where you can get the best price for a trip.

Hi ! not to cause any bad feelings or start anything .... but this is my observation. I lurked for a long time before posting, since I didn't have as much knowledge as others on FT. But I have noticed one thing lately. There has been a large increase of people just asking for information that is readily available from other (easy) sources. Not to necessarily place your request in that category.

Since you know the specific date and hotel you are interested in, perhaps you could have asked something like this: "can anyone tell me how I can get a rate cheaper than xxx for the hotel xxx on date xxx?" People here would be happy to help out !

Just my two cents and to give everyone the benefit of the doubt .....

RECENT Park Lane experiences?

I did a search on this property and cme up with 'rude, uninformed about ug benefits' staff an 'ugly high rise'. But most of these comments were old. Anyone stay there lately?

Best transportation to London Park Lane?

What is the best and easiest way from Heathrow to Hilton Park Lane on Hyde Park? Car service, train, or taxi?
