Work on a new Hilton Garden Inn Hotel near UTEP is now underway.
The hotel is expected to be a great resource for the university.
Now, a curriculum has been built for a hospitality program at UTEP and the recruiting process for faculty has already started.
The hotel will also benefit the hospitals nearby and the city.
"It's going to increase our tax base by 15 million dollars, it's going to create jobs it generates $500,000 a year in sales taxes and property taxes that weren't generated before," said El Paso Mayor Joe Wardy.

UTEP President Diana Natalicio and two principal investors will officially break ground on the five-story Hilton Garden Inn at 10 a.m. Monday (Dec. 6). The 153-room hotel, which will be built at Oregon Street and University Avenue, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005.
“This will be a great opportunity for the entire community,” said Greg McNicol, associate vice president for finance and administration at UTEP. “Having the hotel here will not only benefit the school, but also the nearby hospitals.”
Russell A. Vandenburg, president and CEO of EPT Management Co. and a UTEP alumnus, and Charles Garrett, president and chief operating officer of TVO North America, will join Natalicio at Monday’s ceremony. TVO is the acquisitions and development arm of EPT Management.
