Thumbs down 5 Diamond properties - none?

There was an article in this mornings McPaper about 5 star Hotels. (5 diamonds from AAA, 5 gas pumps from Mobil, 5 beavers from Hustler, whatever). Not a single Hilton property! Realistic?

Definitely.

I think that there was only 1 Hyatt on there, as well, and no Marriott properties, although if you count the Ritzs -- which you can redeem Marriott points for, although not earn them at those places -- there were many!

There were, however, some SPG properties.

It appears that Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton manage to capture more than 50% of the top properties.

Every once in a while we are asked to recommend the best Hilton on the East or West Coast for a weekend getaway. I then try to jump in and answer and find that I can't come up with much. Other people seem to have the same problem. Most of the top Hilton properties are overseas. When it comes to 5 Diamond properties, I don't think Hilton comes to mind. Most of our travel budgets don't allow for luxury hotel stays. But it is still fun to dream. I think the most I have paid for a hotel room is still under $250 night. I know my Dad has paid into the $500 to $700 range. Maybe I'll go there some time in the future.
