Benefits on pre-paid stays
If I book a pre-paid stay via hilton.com do I -
1) Earn points?
2) Get elite perks?
Thanks in advance (I discovered I don't get points at Starwoods for prepaid rates)

And AFAIK, Starwood treats this pretty much the same - even pre-paid stays booked at their own site earn points and perks, but not so if booked elsewhere.

If you no-show, then you get hit with the charge for an amount of the rate + taxes that you "pre-paid" allegedly and may or may not get points. At SPG, you don't get points. At hilton, it varies.

His mention of SPG pre-paid stays not earning points indicated to me that he was not booking his stays at a Starwood website or that something was messed up in the process; so his mention of that may or may not contradict his mention of booking pre-paid stays at Hilton (even though he explicitly mentioned hilton.com).

Hmmm, maybe I should book Net Direct more often!

nomod, As a Hilton Diamond member, I have not had any trouble ever with a Hilton family website-booked pre-paid stay at a H property in the US or abroad earn appropriate points (and miles whilst double-dipping,) or with receiving perks in scale with what the property normally provides.
One (other?) difference is with Hilton properties, one must be a registered guest to receive points from restaurant and similar expenses (I can't drop in to a H restaurant, buy a meal and have the expenditure post for HHonors points.)
