Arrow DISCUSSION for Hilton Honors Hotels in New Zealand {NZL}

www.stuff.co.nz

Hilton Auckland manager confirmed Hilton looking at hotels in the South Island at Christchurch and Queenstown, but it's years away from opening. Plans for a Wellington Hilton are more advanced.

Kiwi Flyer, that is indeed good news!

I've been a happy customer of AKL hilton several times, and will be glad when the South Island hotels open - and Wellington, as well.

Thanks again for sharing the news! Cheers.

GREAT news.

I far prefer flying into Christchurch than North Island and a Hilton will be great news.

New waterfront Hilton for Wellington, NZ

Approval has finally been given.

NZ Herald

Wellington Regional Council has given the go-ahead for a Hilton hotel to be built on the city's waterfront.

The council received nearly a thousand submissions on the five-storey, 142-room Hilton development, more than 800 of which were against the project.

So 80% were against & it got approved? LOL...

I like the Auckland Hilton, so hopefully this will be similar.

Cheers.

That's not uncommon. Each individual person strongly against it is likely to make their own submission. Those in favour tend not to have as strong views, and may submit in a group (eg employers association, retailers association, etc).

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but couldn't find a more relevant one.

Bye-Bye Hilton Queenstown - http://www.scene.co.nz/16172a1.page

Developer faces bankruptcy owing $100m.

Problems besetting developer Dan McEwan should put paid to Queens.town’s five-star $60 million Hilton Hotel and other planned local projects.

Last November, the Aucklander’s Hilton development company Pinpoint Trustees was liquidated by Inland Revenue.

According to the liquidators’ first report, Inland Revenue claimed $315,452 in outstanding GST and PAYE and there’s “unlikely” to be a return to unsecured creditors.

Liquidators say McEwan has advised that his company “experienced financial difficulty caused by the downturn in the New Zealand property market”.

Last weekend, the Sunday Star-Times also reported the Auckland District Court being told how McEwan faces debts of more than $100m and bankruptcy proceedings loom later this month.
Definitely looks like the Hilton Queenstown isn't going ahead...

Wellington also was cancelled last year - http://www.stuff.co.nz/4441191a11.html.

What's the status of the Christchurch development? Last I saw was this article - http://www.stuff.co.nz/4561253a13.html from May 08.

Hilton signs Queenstown deal

Hilton Worldwide has announced the signing of management agreements for two new-build Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties in Queenstown.

The signing of these agreements marks the brand's entry into the town and expands the Hilton Hotels & Resorts portfolio in New Zealand to four hotels.

The development will include a 178-room 5-star hotel to be named Hilton Queenstown and a 4-star hotel, featuring 98 one-bedroom apartment-style rooms, to be known as the "Kawarau Hotel, Managed by Hilton".

2 Hiltons at Queenstown

Looks like Queenstown will have 2 Hilton properties. I wonder what the real difference is between the two Hiltons, and why bother with 2:

Now open and bookable using cash or HHonors points.

NB, main difference is Kawarau Hotel is more aimed at the self-catering market...
