Damn, that sucks! Same property? I've used about 6 over 5 years and always got the points (which was great as I'd made sure to book the most expensive property I could!)

So did I get this right, I just book a room on the Hilton website an present the certificate at the hotel (either check-in or check-out) and if I want to play safe I send them a note with my plan? Any standard room will work?

Yep as long a you do the standard room type (which you can identify from the points levels they would charge if you had been doing a redemption rather than cash booking) then you'll be fine. I often add a note to the booking in the hope that the front desk realise this is someone that's had a problem previously and thus try extra hard to make sure it'd a smooth stay!

of issues with stays and a great cost to
the properties they are issued against.
I really wonder the kinds of issues guests have or their tendencies to complain when I have 1300 nights and precisely 0 BMG certs.
I would be looking at another hotel chain if so many of my stays were so bad a BMG was issued. Or is that the point?

You’ve had 6 BMG certs in five years? That’s a lot
of issues with stays and a great cost to
the properties they are issued against.

Maybe. It’s a lot of certs and used against WA brands is a great cost for the properties. How many certs is that per x number of stays?
I suppose if you turn up at some provincial U.K. Hilton expecting Polish standards you would get loads of them!

When I tried telling the duty manager that I'd been assured that my BMG would be accepted she got very shirty with me and had an attitude like I was trying it on. That was when I wished I had an email confirmation to brandish.

I just tried to reserve a room at the Conrad with a BMG certificate, but she indicated that because the certificate number starts with “HL” that it cannot be used at Conrads. Has anyone heard of this before?

They're usually specific to the brand of property you've had the issue wit - i.e. issue with a Conrad then its a BMG cert valid at Conrad's only.
