$5 self park fee? Really

FWIW, I stayed at the DoubleTree in Durango, Colorado last week, whose listing on Hilton.com says self parking is $12 per day, and it wasn't assessed. In fact, there was no gate, parking pass, mention of it at the desk, or any other apparent way to collect the fee, which leads me to believe it was a mistake in the listing rather than just temporarily waived.

Yes. You're already paying for this parking, albeit indirectly. By paying for it directly it would lead to different development patterns, where owning a car is not a must.
