Multiple Concurrent Reservations
 

I'm looking to book a hotel that has not yet opened in Albuquerque. I'd like to also book a backup hotel just in case the other hotel does not open in time for my reservation, and cancel it if the new hotel does open on time. Will the Hilton system allow me to book 2 hotels with the exact same dates? Or will this cause me any issues?

I have very occasionally booked different hotels with overlapping dates before and cancelling one of them when my plans have firmed up but still well in advance of the cancellation deadline. I have never had any problems and the system allows you to do it

Yes, I in fact often have multiple reservations at different hotels that overlap when I am not yet sure how my plans are going to unfold and I cancel well in advance for those I do not use.

Hilton's system does NOT prohibit overlapping bookings. You can even be checked into two hotels under the same Honors number at the same time, but you will only get points for one (the first property at which you check in). You can call to get points for both if you have a good reason. For example, my wife and I checked in for a 3 night stay, but I had to leave due to a work emergency.

Any recent experience with overlapping stays? I have had reservations for overlapping dates numerous times before, but always cancelled the other reservation in plenty of time. I have a situation I am trying to figure out. I currently have a 4 night stay booked at Hotel A for a very good rate. Plans have changed slightly and I now would like to do 3 nights at Hotel A and 1 night at Hotel B (the 4th night) in another town nearby. When I went to book Hotel A for 3 nights, it shows as sold out but I can book with the Diamond Guarantee for double my current nightly rate... so 3 nights would be about $400 total more than my current reservation for 4 nights.

If I edit my current 4 night reservation to go down to 3 nights, I would essentially have to rebook at the new rate, correct? One option is keep my 4 night stay but leave on day 3. I could easily book a Marriott or non-Hilton for the "Hotel B" single night stay and Hilton would be none the wiser I suppose. But I actually would prefer a Hilton property for my single night stay. So I would be checked in to two Hilton properties at the same time in that situation. I don't want Hilton to cancel my second stay and I would like to earn points for it if I'm paying for it. Anybody had a similar situation recently?

If you do nothing, Hilton won't cancel the overlapping stay, but you won't get points for one of them.

You can ask Hotel A if they would cut your existing reservation to 3 nights without changing the rate. Sometimes they have an "early departure fee" which they would charge instead of the rate for the 4th night, but you can negotiate this, particularly if they are fully booked they may not mind selling your unwanted 4th night for a higher price.

I didn't know you could do this. Makes sense if they are full they may be able to get a higher rate than the OP paid.

In relation to the question about cancelling and rebooking, yes you would have to pay the new rate.

I just got caught up in this HH policy. I normally make diamond from stays. By my accounting, I had 32 stays last year. I travel for bike events, staying at a Hilton near the event. I keep my hotel for the following night, even though I only need it to shower and pack my bike for the flight. I shift in the evening to an airport Hilton, so I'm double-booked. I did this three times last year. I did not notice that Hilton was planning to downgrade to gold this month because their counting only showed 29 stays.

So here's the way it trips you up. You get credit for the night but not for the stay. And, it does not appear that Hilton will tell you what your accumulated stays are during the year. Maybe one of you experts knows how to check that number during the year, but I can't find it. Nobody at HH could explain this or even tell me it happened this way. Only when I read this thread did I realize that 32 minus 3 means a downgrade. Ugh. It's going to be a long road to re-qualify so learn from my mistake! Just because you show credit for a night you don't have credit for a stay.

In the hilton app click on Account at the bottom, it shows nights and stays and base points.

Does anyone know how this works, because there seems to be conflicting information on this thread?

1. If you have overlapping stays do you get stay credits for the whole duration? I imagine I will not get double nights for the overlapping stays but do I get at least one night credit for each night that I am booked into at least one hotel? So if I have two bookings in different cities from 1 to 5 June 2025 and 3 to 8 June 2025, would I at least get 7 nights credit?
2. Will I get my points for both stays?
3. Does Hilton allow overlapping stays by 2 nights in different cities? So I want co check out of one hotel on (say) 15 June and check into another hotel on 13 June? Clearly I do not want to do this if it is prohibited.

1. You should get 4 nights credit for the first stay without problems but you will probably have to contact Hilton to get partial credit for the second stay.
2. You will probably only get points for one hotel per night.
3. There is no prohibition on your movements, you just might not get points/credit for the overlapping nights.
