The most commonly posed question about the new food/beverage benefit, which is now extended through the end of 2022, is how it works for multi-night stays. Here's what we do & don't know:
  • The credit does not accumulate over the duration of your stay. For instance, if you stay for 2 nights at a $15/night property, you cannot use the benefit toward a single $30 purchase at one time.
  • Thus, the credit for a given day may only be used on that day. It expires afterward.
  • Unfortunately, Hilton has offered no clear explanation of what qualifies as a "day." (FAQ 24 purports to give an answer, but makes no sense.)
    • Some properties reportedly apply a "calendar day" rule. For a stay arriving Monday and departing Wednesday (two nights, ergo two credits), this means the credit is available only on Monday (first credit) and Tuesday (second credit), with no option for breakfast use on Wednesday.
    • Other properties don't use midnight as the cutoff, but instead allow use of a day's credit until the bar/restaurant closes, even if that occurs early the next calendar day (say, 1am). This interpretation also precludes use for breakfast on the day of departure.
      • Neither of these approaches makes logical sense, given that on a one-night stay the credit may be used either on day of arrival or day of departure, per FAQ 8.
    • A few properties reportedly use the standard checkin or checkout time as the dividing line: guest arriving Monday has until noon or 3pm Tuesday to use the first day's credit (or whatever the checkin/checkout times for that property are).

Official Hilton benefit statement (updated for 2022) with FAQ at end:

Through 2022, we’ll be offering Gold and Diamond members a Daily Food & Beverage Credit at our luxury, full-service, lifestyle and Hilton Garden Inn hotel brands in the U.S. This credit is offered as part of the Hilton Honors MyWay benefits, in place of the prior complimentary continental breakfast.

Starting February 1, 2022, we are also increasing the credit amounts across our full-service and lifestyle brands from $12 to $15 per night, and $15 to $18 per night in select markets.

Traveling with a friend or loved one? You and up to one additional guest registered to the same room will each receive the daily credit. The credit applies to the one guest room in which the Elite member is staying and will be provided for each night of your stay.

You can use the credit towards eligible food and beverage purchases that are charged to your room—any time of day—at designated outlets throughout the property. Refreshing beverages? Check. Appetizer or desert with dinner? Check, check. Breakfast at the restaurant? Sure. Breakfast to go? No problem.

Gold members can choose to receive the Daily Food & Beverage Credit or Bonus Points as part of their Hilton Honors MyWay benefits. Diamond members will receive both the Daily Food & Beverage Credit and 1,000 Bonus Points at all brands listed above except for Hilton Garden Inn, where Diamond members can choose between the credit or 750 Bonus Points. Visit your MyWay profile through your Hilton Honors account online or through the Hilton Honors app to select your preferences before your next stay.

The credit will be applied automatically to your bill for any eligible purchases charged to your room prior to checkout.

The Daily F&B Credit may be used to purchase alcoholic beverages, subject to state and local laws.

Like the previous elite continental breakfast benefit, the Hilton Honors Daily F&B credit will not apply to day-rate reservations.

16. Does the Hilton Honors member receive an additional Daily F&B Credit for double occupancy?

24. When does the credit expire each day?

The credit does not “expire” until the member checks out, however, the daily amount re-sets each day to the maximum daily credit value. Members can use up to the total daily maximum and are responsible for anything beyond that amount.

Since the member gets a new credit each day (for the number of nights of their stay), the only day they can use any leftover credit is the morning of check-out.

25. How will the F&B Credit work between January 1-February 1, 2022?

Stays that take place between January 1-February 1, 2022 will receive the complimentary Daily F&B Credit amounts announced in 2021. The increased credit amounts for Hilton’s lifestyle and full-service brands will go into effect on February 1, 2022 and beyond.

26. How will the complimentary Daily F&B Credit appear on my hotel bill/folio?

The total eligible Daily F&B Credit amount used and billed to the room during a member’s stay will be automatically applied and appear as one line item per day on a member’s hotel bill/folio, deducted from the total stay cost at the end of their stay.

27. How will the Hilton Honors Daily F&B Credit be handled at hotels with Executive Lounges?

At hotels that have an Executive Lounge that offers complimentary breakfast, Diamond members and Gold members upgraded to Executive Lounge access will not receive the Daily F&B Credit. These hotels will provide the Daily F&B Credit to Gold members not upgraded to Executive Lounge access.

28. Is the Daily F&B Credit now a permanent benefit?

In addition to increasing credit amounts across the lifestyle and full-service brands, Hilton Honors is extending the complimentary Daily Food & Beverage Credit into 2022 and will continue to evaluate this benefit to make the best decisions for our members going forward.

But that would reduce breakage, and therefore be counter to this plan.

I just realized I never got a response to the complaint I submitted regarding the Capital Hilton which I posted up thread. Will escalate via the email addresses Mikey posted up thread. If they want to do this credit, it really should be an either or like the My Way prefs are. Do you want an actual breakfast or the credit? Win win.

Sent a message to Hilton on Twitter asking how the credit works with multiple night stays and they didn't know! They tried to call the hotel but they wouldn't answer...

Kinda sums up everything wrong.

just returned from a one night stay at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista (across the street from Disney Springs). Didn’t have an issue redeeming the daily f&b credit in their quick serve “marketplace.” Picked up two donuts, two breakfast sandwiches and a thing of fruit for $29. Plus the $30 resort fee (which was waived for some reason) two bottles of water and regular coffee. All in for $5. However, the $12 x 2 credit wouldn’t go far in their full service breakfast restaurant.

Correct! I haven't stayed at a Hilton property since this nonsense began. I have 6 more nights to "retain" Diamond, but see no use in it right now.
Breakfast is very important for me and my family, therefore I will stick with Hyatt Globalist, even though I am way over 100 nights and will get nothing more besides points for stays with Hyatt.

Indeed, with continental buffet costing $18 and then there's the complications relating to tipping. But still it gives at least a $6 shortfall, and this is the sort of place where pre-pandemic I would have expected them to offer the hot buffet at a $5 or $7 supplement to Diamonds.

This is where we could be empowered to make proper decisions, if only we had the information that you have so kindly provided. Since that hotel is essentially a $300 a night hotel currently going for $200 a night due to reduced tourism, by the looks of it. So in context, if I'm saving $100 on the room rate - or mentally adding $6 / $13 (plus tip) to the current rate - then I can see an argument for booking this place. compared to going some non Hilton location where the breakfast has to be factored into the maths. However this is information that I can glean from here, not Hilton's hopeless website.

That has always been a big frustration for me. It is hit-or-miss whether a hotel website will post the complete menus (with prices) for all of its restaurants. If a hotel has a free breakfast buffet, why can't it post the schedule for the rotating hot items?

I've never seen a hotel post the exact channel lineup for its in-room television on its website. Just saying your internet is "high speed" is meaningless. Nobody posts floor plans on their website. Or says what kind of shower-head they have. Or whether that shower-head is fixed or euro-style adjustable. Exactly what are the toiletries and who makes them?

Don't be coy with details of the exercise facilities. Exactly what weight machines do you have? Exactly what cardio equipment? What are the dimensions of the pool and how deep is it?

You and me both. It's a web site, for crying out loud! Put information on it! Perhaps I'm the unusual one, but I don't go to hotel web sites to be entertained or to look at pretty colors; I go for information. Any hotel that doesn't provide it, even if "no one else does that", is saying that knowledgeable customers are not worth the effort--or that knowledgeable customers are a detriment to its operation.

Over the last month, I had some stays at a couple of Doubletrees in the PDX suburbs due to three recent heat waves. Hotel prices, which are often quite high in the summer, are as high as they’ve ever been.

The Doubletree Beaverton offered to-go bags for $7 containing a muffin, a small yogurt, a breakfast sandwich, a miniature orange and a cup (not a bottle) of juice. I asked for three bags and then requested a soda a little later and the clerk said, "there is no rollover." I had no clue what she was talking about, grabbed my soda and left. During a second stay, they were out of the muffin, the fruit and the yogurt but still charged $7. In all cases, there were no itemized charges on the bill.

I attempted to have a third stay but their internet was down and I was able to get the Diamond desk to move me to the Doubletree Tigard, who was willing to honor my rate. They charge $9 for a breakfast baggie consisting of a breakfast sandwich, a small yogurt and a bottle of juice. At checkout, they tried to charge for one of the bags, even though the room was booked for two. All charges appeared on the bill so it was easy to see what was added and then credited back.

I also booked a few reward stays at a new Element (Marriott, former SPG) hotel that had opened nearby in Beaverton. At this brand, free breakfast is available to all guests. They had two cooks making hot breakfasts to order, which included eggs, French toast and crepes. Boxes were available for guests like me who wished to take breakfast back to the room. Guests could also help themselves to packaged or wrapped muffins, pastries, fruit, cereal, oatmeal and yogurt. On weekday evenings, they also provide free beer and wine, along with bread, olives and cheese.

There is no Oregon law that restricts food services in restaurants and hotels. These Hilton properties have very high rates, are frequently sold out but still offer these ludicrous breakfasts. If not for a reasonable rate that I found, I can't imagine booking a Hilton property under these circumstances.

I'm experiencing a night and day situation between my last 2 week stay at a HGI compared to my current month stay at Hyatt place. No checks no credits no vouchers or tickets on how much breakfast food you're taking. And I'm happy to see masks worn around the food areas. And free water daily. I'm hoping Hilton scraps the credit policy ASAP, because I really like HGIs, it has everything I need for an extended stay.

When I canceled my DT Tigard stay last month (in favor of the HI&S in Sherwood which has a free breakfast), I called the DT Tigard to let them know why I was canceling my reservation. The clerk, likely due to ignorance, responded by (incorrectly) saying, “Just so you know, the Hampton Inn is doing credits instead of breakfast too.” Granted, this was early on in the new program, but additional evidence of how poorly this was rolled out.

That DT Tigard often has some good rates, but the layout of the building and parking lot is so bizarre. I don’t know that I’ll particularly miss staying there.

My experience from the Hilton Rosemont this past weekend was the $15 credit was enough for a Venti Mocha and either a Venti drip coffee or piece of pumpkin cake or similar plus tip. I think if you got a regular Venti drip you could also get one of the hot sandwiches. I did not check to see how far that got in restaurant because I knew from eating there previously when breakfast was included it was going to be well above $15 for an eggs n bacon sort of breakfast which is the only reason I would go to a restaurant for breakfast vs Starbucks.

The Doubletree Richmond Airport is still doing a very streamlined complimentary continental - coffee, cereal, milk, juice, yogurt, Jimmy Dean sausage egg cheese biscuit to reheat - as their restaurant is still not open. They have been pointing those looking for hotel restaurant meal to the Hilton Garden next door has had its restaurant open at least since Memorial Day

The Hilton-brand pendulum is swinging very much in financial favor of the operators / owners right now and away from the customers. I don't think they're trying to hide that, nor do they feel it's a threat to their customer base as there's been so much consolidation the last few years. .

I stayed at the Hampton Sherwood shortly after it opened last summer. They had some great rates last year but the breakfast baggie was especially sparse. I wrote about it in the What are current Hampton Inn breakfasts during the pandemic thread. What is their breakfast like now?

Regarding the DT Tigard, they have some very spacious junior suites that never show up on the map when checking in on line but are sometimes available if one asks about them. A former manager told me about the suites.
