Diamond cut to 30 nights in 2021 (so 15 nights during current promo!)

This just in:

LONDON, UK. (October 27, 2020) – Hilton has today announced further status and points extensions, providing maximum flexibility and value to its 108 million Hilton Honors members and guests around the world.

Hilton Honors, the guest loyalty programme of Hilton’s world-class portfolio of 18 brands, has implemented several new programme adjustments to 2020 and 2021 policies, including

Extending Points Expiration so that no Points will expire until December 31, 2021.

Reducing Status Qualification Requirements by 50 percent across all tiers, including stays, nights and Base Points in 2021, to allow members to achieve status in half the time. For example, this means to earn Gold status, a member must complete 20 nights, 10 stays or 37,500 Points instead of 40 nights, 20 stays or 75,000 points. And, as previously announced, all 2020 nights will automatically roll over to the 2021 calendar year to help Hilton Honors members upgrade their tier status even faster.

Lowering Milestone Bonus Night Threshold to begin at 20 nights in 2021 (was previously 40 nights) to align with new Gold status qualification and allow members to earn rewards faster. Gold members will earn 10,000 Bonus Points for 20 nights stayed and will continue earning the additional 10,000 Bonus Points every 10 nights above that level in a calendar year. At 60 nights, a member would still earn the additional Milestone Bonus of 30,000 Bonus Points.

Extending Status to March 31, 2022 for Silver, Gold and Diamond members that were set to downgrade in 2020 or 2021. This means members can keep their status longer and continue to enjoy their benefits.

Reducing Gifting Status Night Threshold to the new Diamond status night qualification. Diamond members who stay 30 nights in 2021 will be able to gift Gold status (was previously 60 nights) or 60 nights to upgrade the gift to Diamond status (was previously 100 nights).

“We’re really pleased to announce these industry-leading adjustments to our loyalty programme, giving our guests even more flexibility as they look ahead to next year”, said Heather Laverne, Vice President for Loyalty in Europe. “We want to continue to show our appreciation and support for our loyal Hilton Honors members by making it as easy as possible for them to travel, as soon as they are ready to make new travel memories again.”

..... so, on my maths, do 15 nights before 31 December 2020 during the current 'double credits' promo to earn 30 elite night credits, this will carry over into 2021 and you become Diamond on 1st January until March 2023.

Only Gold members get the milestone at 20? Surely Diamond too?

Gifting reduced from 60 to 30 for Gold, Diamond 100 to 60, not 50?

Plus add the extra complication that nights/stays transfer to 2021 for this current promo, but not for the purpose of milestone nor status gifting?

Interesting, I usually renew with 30 nights as 1 night stays and was planning to do this in 2021 (as the options before today were 60 nights across 2020-21 or 30 stays in 2021).

Now looks like I no longer have to move to a new hotel every night, plus any further stays in 2020 will count (double) instead of not counting at all. So it's a positive for me for now, but likely to lead to more diamonds and more devaluations in the future.

FlyerTalk Community—

We know you and millions of Hilton Honors members around the world are looking forward to making future travel plans. As we approach the end of 2020, we remain committed to supporting you by providing maximum flexibility and value.

Today, we are implementing several new program adjustments to 2020 and 2021 policies, including:
  • Extending Points Expiration so that no Points will expire until December 31, 2021.
  • Extending Status to March 31, 2022 for Silver, Gold and Diamond members that were set to downgrade in 2020 or 2021. This means members can keep their status longer and continue to enjoy their benefits.
  • Reducing Status Qualification Requirements by 50 percent across all tiers, including stays, nights and Base Points, to allow members to achieve status in half the time.
  • Lowering Milestone Bonus Night Threshold to begin at 20 nights (was previously 40 nights) to align with new Gold status qualification and allow members to earn rewards faster. At 60 nights, a member would still earn the additional Milestone Bonus of 30,000 Bonus Points.
  • Reducing Gifting Status Night Threshold to the new Diamond status night qualification. Diamond members who stay 30 nights will be able to gift Gold status (was previously 60 nights) or 60 nights to upgrade the gift to Diamond status (was previously 100 nights).
  • Extending Benefits for Hilton Honors American Express Card Members
    • Bonus Points will continue to count as Base Points on eligible purchases through December 31, 2021 on all cards and count toward Elite tier qualification, including Lifetime Diamond Status.
    • All 2021-issued Free Weekend Night Reward certificates can be used any night of the week and expiration will be extended to December 31, 2022. Unexpired Free Weekend Night Rewards as of December 31, 2020 will expire in accordance with their previously communicated terms. All Free Weekend Night Reward certificates can also continue to be used any night of the week.

So as a Gold currently sitting on 31 night (I’ll be on 37 by the end of 2020) I’ll roll over to Diamond on January 1?

Only Gold members get the milestone bonus at 20 nights?

Is it correct the gifting Gold threshold is 30 nights was, 60, but Diamond is 60 was 100 (not 50)?

With the double credits right now; rolling to 2021, does this trigger Milestone and gifting (normally doesnt).

Do 2020 rollover nights count toward Milestone Bonus achievement?
No only nights earned in 2021 count toward Milestone Bonus achievement.

Correct, gifting status for Diamond was 100 nights. No rollover nights (or promotional night i.e. double credits) count against milestone and gifting status in 2021. Must be within the 2021 calendar year to count for milestone and gifting. The rollover only counts toward status achievement in 2021.

So effectively I need 10 nights for Gold (assuming I accumulate it by this year)? With the double promo.

How do you get that, easier progress to the 10 year Diamond requirement?

Nevermind I saw the Amex reference in the other thread. I will confess to benefitting from it earlier in the year to get my last 100k base points en route to LTD.

Still the extension rankles me .
