New HH Amex benefits for a period of time

Given elite status already grandfathered that bit feels redundant.

I think the ability for bonus points to be counted as base points... which can then be applied to ones credit towards lifetime status between May 1 and Dec 31.. is actually pretty awesome and very generous! I am wondering if this also includes any hotel stay bonus points. If so, this will really help me out, as I am so close to lifetime!

For people with the Aspire card, from June 1st through August 31st, you can use your $250 Resort credit towards restaurant purchases. That's a nice perk

The free Weekend Night Reward certificate can now be used any night of the week. This is the major benefit that I can see.

and to be clear even non hotel spending (eg at WalMart) bonus points will count towards lifetime Diamond?

Is the "normal" earn considered base points? I've never paid my attention because I'm always Diamond with credit card spend, but I guess if it helps me toward lifetime status that's great.

Have always wondered why the Surpass got the supermarket bonus but Aspire doesn't? But now with the changes (even if temp) the Aspire is absolutely amazing and I would keep going forward

Now we know what $1B worth of points can get you...

Amex buys $1 billion of Hilton Honors points

For those gunning for Lifetime Diamond:

Prior to May 1, 2020 if you were an Aspire or Ascend/Surpass holder:
  • $1 eligible spend @ a Hilton property = 10 base points
  • any other spend = 0 base points
  • Lifetime Diamond* = 2,000,000 base points = $200,000 hotel spend, irrespective of AMEX HH card spend

From May 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020:
  • $1 eligible spend @ a Hilton property = 10 base points
  • $1 spend = 1 base point
  • Lifetime Diamond* = 2,000,000 base points = $200,000 hotel spend and/or up to $2,000,000 hotel and additional spend on AMEX HH cards

Lifetime Diamond = 10 years Diamond, 1,000 paid paid and/or award nights or 10 years Diamond, 2,000,000 base points

So, if you weren't Lifetime Diamond yet (and are willing to devote 10 years of your life to this effort and/or be an Aspire card holder or spend $30K/year as a Ascend/Surpass card holder) and were already in the spendy category (aiming to clear 2,000,000 base points), this helps. If you were in the BIB (butt in bed) category (1,000 paid nights), probably not a big difference.

Beyond nice, it's a huge perk for a person about to dump this card after first anniversary. Never did get to use the airline credit. I wonder if buying a $2,000 Publix or Safeway card would count for the bonus points.

From the OP link

Bonus Points earned through eligible purchases on your Card that post to your Hilton Honors account between May 1 and December 31, 2020 will be considered Base Points, which count toward elite tier qualification and Lifetime Diamond Status.
Wouldn’t the multiple also count as base points? For example spending at a department store earns 3x. So wouldnt $1000 spend earn 3000 base points towards Lifetime Diamond during May 1 - Dec 31? Instead of just 1,000 base points?

Personally, I doubt it but a call to AMEX could clarify. I'm assuming that $1 allowed AMEX spend = 1 Base Point during the period.

Hmm. Re-reading the page and your quote is now leading me toward your interpretation. Probably wouldn't hurt to get that clarified though.

What are "bonus" points?

I am so confused about what are "bonus points"? For regular purchases (non-supermarket, etc.) we earn 3x points. These are NOT "bonus" points, correct? Looking at my previous statements, under Hilton Honors Points earned, it has 2 categories:
Points Earned for Eligible Purchases
Total Bonus Points Earned

Do both categories count toward life Diamond now? or only the "bonus points"?
