No need to call. Just add them as the second guest when booking.

I've done this many times for my wife. I book the room in my name and add her as a guest. When she shows up, she can check in without me. She has to give the hotel a credit card for incidentals, but then she's good. Not once in ten years has anyone asked where I was.
I think technically though, it's not allowed.

What people get away with and what is allowed are two separate things.
The OP should just call Hilton Honors, explain the situation, and let them make the appropriate booking. All it takes is the OP to book one of the hotels that really doesn't appreciate "second named guests" and it could all end in tears..
