Resort fee on combined stay

I have a free night certificate that Iím redeeming and have a paid rate the following night at the same hotel booked separately. Am I correct in assuming that ill
only have to pay 1 night worth of resort fees even if I have them link the bookings at checkin so I donít have to change rooms?

Maybe. The rule for reward stays is that, if a stay is booked entirely with points, there is no resort charge. But if $1 of it is paid, the resort fee applies to the whole reservation. With that logic, your entire stay could be charged a resort fee. Two separate bookings on consecutive nights would make things clear. And the chances of being moved - if you let the hotel know of the back to back bookings is low. They will bend over backward to avoid the housekeeping cost of a complete turnover of an extra room.
