15-20 nights / month - spread over 3-4 stays at Hilton - questions
So, I have been considering moving some of my business to Hilton since Marriott double point is expiring and Hilton has sweetened the deal.
As a GOLD (can be diamond with Amex aspire), if I were to book a room with a rate classified as "2X POINTS" how many points would I gather? 10 nights Stay per night $100 GOLD status this is how I calculate" Dollars spent = 10X100 = $1000 Base points = 10*1000 = 10,000 Gold = 8*1000 = 8000 Rate promotion (2X) = 2X 10,000 = 20,000 Overall HILTION Promotion (2 X for second stay and after) = 2 x 10,000 = 20,000 Total 10,000 + 8000 + 20,000 + 20,000 = 58,000 points? for 10 night stay? |
10000 base points for $1000 spend
8000 bonus points for Gold 10000 bonus points for 2x points rate 10000 bonus points for the double points promotion So a total of 38000 points. Also note that you do not earn points on taxes, so if the cost is $900 plus $100 taxes, then points would be 9000 + 7200 + 9000 + 9000 = 35200. |
Yes, thanks for that. I don't know what the hell was I thinking.
Also, 14x for using Marriott aspire Amex. So another 14,000 right there...? |

If you're throwing that many nights at Hilton, get the Aspire. It more than pays for itself if you use it right. (Make sure you read the threads about the rules for airline incidentals and which airlines count gift cards towards the $250 credit.)
Worthwhile even if you have to continue to split some with Marriott. The two top-level hotel Amexes are the only two annual fee cards I carry anymore because they're better-than-free if you take advantage of the most basic benefits. |

Here's my dilemma, if you could call it so: I have Amex platinum and Hilton Gold Status because of that. So, one way would be to use AMEX to book the Hilton nights and get 5x Amex points for all the nights. I'll only be missing on 20% bonus stay being GOLD and not Diamond. I could always sign up for AMEX Hilton Ascend card and get 12x (or 14x with Aspire).. but not sure if it's gonna be worth the fee. Remember I get most benefits with AMEX Platinum already On the other hand, I have almost a lot of nights with Marriott, practically last 4 months and at Titanium Elite I am pretty much at the top level - 1.75 X (Ambassador doesn't excite me too much) Since Marriott's double points promotion is ending soon, I was thinking of taking up Hilton on their offer and hitting some nights and accruing some points. |
