"Guests are not allowed to leave the hotel" (!?!)

"Guests are not allowed to leave the hotel" (!?!)
Well. THAT'S a new alert I can honestly say I've never seen come up before!
I respect that it's their national holiday, so "guest must remain within the hotel property."
But got me thinking: Has anyone ever been trapped in a hotel on Nyepi Day in Bali that can comment how that works?
Like, I wake up, go to breakfast (which is excellent at the HGI Bali, btw), and... hang out all day at the pool and room, doing nothing because you're not *supposed* to leave?
Or do you literally have security/police called if you try to (gasp) exit the hotel grounds?
Curious minds want to know how this holiday works. Or doesn't.

I've once stayed in a resort during Nyepi. During the day we tried to spend some time at the beach, but were not allowed to as security tried to usher back to the hotel area. I recall that service was pretty limited - (no room service or turndown).
Now it got even more restrictive as internet and TV are cut for 24 hours island-wide.

I love the spirit of this holiday - I could actually see seeking it out and wanting to be at a mountaintop monastery for it. Not so sure I'd be happy if it snuck up on me while I was at a party location like Bali.

<snip>
Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection, and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and, for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali's usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. The only people to be seen outdoors are the Pecalang, traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed.
