I can not remember the last time I stayed at a HGI for a personal trip. That being said, if I am on business I am taking the 750 points and expensing the breakfast. In fact I am expensing it to my room as a room charge so I get the additional points for dollars spent.

750 points = $1.87
HGI breakfast = about $1.00. If you add a tip, you're in the hole.
Two nearly worthless options. Not worth a conversation.

Work -> points. I get breakfast either reimbursed or outside the hotel entirely.

Leisure -> breakfast.
Or if you have a flight that leaves so early that you need to leave the hotel before breakfast.

One could argue that most things on flyertalk aren't worth a conversation. That said, I think your evaluations are way off. $.0025/pt seems awfully low (even for Hilton), and I have never been able to purchase breakfast anywhere for $1.

Ok, so which do you choose?

I'm not a breakfast guy so I take the points.

I wonder if the poster was valuing the food being eaten at $1.00 cost to the hotel or was missing a 0 and meant to type $10.00.

I don't think he meant $10, judging by that comment about the tip.

I value Hilton points at .5 cents each, so 750 of them equal about 3.75 vs 25.00 for breakfast for two (w/o tip) -- on a points (aka vacation) stay it's a no brainer to have breakfast for free and the clerk that asked me what I wanted showed her intelligence, or lack there of.

This thread says a lot more about your intelligence than the clerk's.

Exactly. How DARE the clerk do her job and ask her a question that she's trained to ask? If she's not intelligent enough to KNOW exactly what you want, she shouldn't be working front desk.

Out of interest, what is your My Way default set to for HGI?

Company pays for breakfast traveller keeps the points

I think it is about time a few CEO and CFO ''s read this thread and checked a few expense account :-)
Travel claims will be down and profit will be up ! 😆 :-)

after setting a company policy that no breakfast will be reimbursed if there is a option to take points there will be a travel policy sayings points earnt from business travel must be used for business travel

I pity those who have to deal with you in real life.
