Room Type Definitions

Is there any consensus over the names of rooms between hotels? Does a King room guarantee a bed of a certain size? Is a certain room area or feature (bath, fridge etc) included? I’m fairly sure a King Room is better than a Queen Room, but where do Deluxe and Superior rooms fit in?

No.

No. If you get the room it means you get a King bed, however I'm pretty sure Hilton doesn't even guarantee that you will necessarily get the bed type you book (some other chains do).

No. If the room descriptions are "1 King Bed" and "1 Queen Bed" (or "2 Queen Beds") they are likely identical rooms with the only difference being the number and size of beds.

Wherever the individual property wants them to. At some hotels their base room is "Deluxe" because it sounds fancy.

Agreed. When you see King, Queen or Double in the room name that usually implies the bed type (at least I can't recall ever seeing a King Room have a Queen bed). Anything else is fluff and up to the property to decide. It can be the superior room is identical to the deluxe but just on a higher floor or with a view. This stuff really varies from property to property.

And don't even get me started on what a standard definition of a "suite" is .....

That does not work in some older properties or some properties in Europe where rooms are different sizes. A 1 Queen Bed room might be smaller than a 1 King Bed room.
