:-: Welcome to the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Wiki! :-:
Notes: All prices are in US Dollars and are exclusive of taxes unless specified (by ++)

Tax Information
• 10% Service Charge (levied by resort. For info on this and how it's distributed, see this post)
• 16% T-GST (Tourist Goods & Services Tax, levied by the Maldivian government, current as of Jan 1, 2023). Old 2022 rate was 12%.
• Total tax is 27.2%, not 26% as one would think. Example; $100 + 10% = $110, then add 16% on to $110 for a total of $127.20.
• Tip: To work out prices before the 27.2% taxes, multiply by 0.7862, i.e; 127.2 * 0.7862 = 100
• A Green Tax of $6pp/pn (levied by the Maldivian government) has been introduced starting from 1 November 2015. Points/Redemption bookings are exempt from the tax for up to two guests per room

Booking with points
• Bookings must be cancelled 30 days prior in order to avoid one full night's charge at BAR. (some days cancellation period is 14 days check your reservation details for the exact applicable cancellation policy)
• Website and phone agents state that a cash deposit equivalent to the BAR per night will be taken when booking stays with points. This is an error. NO CASH DEPOSIT IS TAKEN WHEN MAKING A POINTS BOOKING
• Free night certificate: The phone agent states that a cash deposit equivalent to the BAR per night will be taken when booking your free night. This is an error. NO CASH DEPOSIT IS TAKEN WHEN USING YOUR FREE NIGHT CERTIFICATE
This hotel is extremely popular. Rooms are released to be booked with points about 1 year in advance. It seems to be a partially manual process so it's not an exact science. After being released those rooms get booked within a matter of minutes. If you have specific dates you want you need to book them one at a time a year in advance, or risk booking last minute. Yes that makes it hard to use the 5th night free. You can book 5 individual nights and cancel them all to rebook getting the 5th night free, but there's only about a 50% chance the rooms go back into inventory so it's risky. There is no secret, just check Hilton.com all the time. If you don't want to do that, someone else will and they'll get the rooms.

Accommodation:
At opening the resort defined Beach Villas as the lowest category of accommodation (only this category bookable with points). The next highest category was Reef Villas then above that, the Overwater Villas. Note: villas on the Private Island do not count.
This will change in 2020. Quote from the resort "Please be informed that for next year we have changed our villa category. Kindly note that the Reef Villa will be our base category, next will be the Overwater Villa and then the Beach Villa. Basically the Beach Villa will be a higher category compared to reef Villa and Overwater Villa."
See this post for the conversation related to this. Pricing has changed as well to reflect this. See below for 2020 pricing.
Note that as of August 2019 the BV is still available to book on points in 2020. This may change, however.

what is the time period of the festive period. I have been looking for 9 night. Any of the nights that i put in for 2 nights or 9 nights , nothing is available. Even when i put in random dates in Oct, Nov, Dec, , or even July. I don't see any availability. I contacted the hotel directly they are saying that they have already put out the rooms. I have no idea how I would have missed it.

If you have insufficient points in your account, you may not be able to see available rooms. Try to sign out of your Hilton account and then search.

I have over 2 mil points and several certificates. We had planned to take qatar airlines . If anyone is taking qatar and has kids, we found a hotel called the Hilton Salwa. It is a brand new hotel, just opening up. It has go cars, waterslides , lazertag, and more on the hotel grounds. It also looks like it is going to be a very nice hotel.

If you only see 800k rooms then standard awards are sold out. You can do a flexible booking and look at the calendar to see which day or days do not have standard availability. March is pretty close so I would not be surprised if all the days are sold out of standard awards. You need to book this hotel close to a year out.

I don’t know the exact dates, but hotel inventory only appears to be loaded through Jan 10, 2022, but with the 7 night minimum you cannot book a stay arriving after Jan 3, 2022. All standard awards are sold out in December 2021 and January 2022.

Given the current COVID situation standard availability may well open up over the next few weeks as visits are cancelled.

Thanks, didn't know you needed like 1 year in advance for this hotel. My plane tickets are not changeable, as they are the free Qatar airways tickets. We are a party of 10, all in the QR promo.

What hotels do you recommend in The Maldives? And what islands?
I see availability for the Conrad. How is it?

Thanks also, do this actually open up or it's just an unicorn? I may think about booking the Conrad to have something safe. It would be my first time redeeming HH, are they refundable? Like very easy to cancel? If for example i find a more enticing pay upfront hotel kind of sale on the internet?

Use this as a lesson not to book airfare unless you have a hotel lined up. The WA is still fairly new and is one of the most notable Hilton properties in the world. Demand is massive and supply is limited. COVID has helped with availability, but recent reports seem to indicate more and more people are returning to the resort.

Are you hoping to book the entire party of 10 for award rooms? If so then I think it is exceedingly rare that you will succeed at the WA. Standard awards are just regular reef villas so you’d need at least 3 rooms. It would be difficult enough to get 3 award rooms a year out let alone 2 months in advance.

I have never been to the WA or Conrad (my trip to the WA was cancelled due to Covid), but there are lots of fans of the Conrad on their separate thread here. It’s a bit more economical too, though given that it’s the Maldives it’s still expensive. People seem to claim the Conrad has a more natural look and laid back vibe and that it has better snorkeling at the house reef. The Conrad is also older and some of its rooms are showing their age, though renovations were being conducted. The WA is more luxurious and has much nicer rooms, but some people claim the islands feel more artificial which makes sense considering they are man made islands.

well learned a lesson the hard way. I booked 6 nights and now I have a cert I want to use for the 6th night, but they can't use it since they can't break up the booking without cancelling it and trying all over again. Not the end of the world, but I'd rather use an expiring cert than 120k points

if I were to do it again, I'd make the 5-night booking and then add on each night separately that I think I could use a cert for.

Thanks, I am still coordinating how we are going to tackle the 10 person stay. Most likely we will not book award stays, this is only in my case as i could use some points for my party of 2. We are total 10 but i do not have to bear the cost or the logistics of the 10. Everyone can book the hotel they want to book. Though I and another family member like to help in guiding the other remaining persons.

Ideally would be that we all book at the same island. By same island I am not sure is obligatory has to be the same hotel/resort complex as to what i am looking at, it seems it is one hotel per island. What could be a meeting point to see my family members if they decide to book each a different hotel?

This trip is like a Bonus, many of us just could squeeze 5 nights at max from work but the trip is more like an after sought/weekend trip. We just wanted to take advantage of the won Qatar Airways medical doctor's promo (everyone in the family is a doctor) so this was something unexpected, that we don't want to get too complex in trip planning. I, because I wanted to go off the beaten path and get a little bit more complex/creative are willing to divide the stay in 2 hotels to just use my points for the sake of using them. I am still contemplating wherever I can achieve this or if it would be too expensive to the point is not worth it and i would be better off booking any quick internet deal on a Maldives hotel and be done with it. Even if i book myself and the other 9 persons on the same hotel, i still would like to redeem an extra room in the Conrad just so i could visit it, like a day trip and using my points stay. Even if my luggage and family members are staying in another island, that's why i wanted to know the costs or wherever is feasible for me to redeem my free night, sleep at the Conrad and then be back with my family members to the hotel #2 we all booked. Initially was this WA but i just checked it is 800K per night which is a no go then. but Conrad could do, i just don't know the costs of transportation, or if transportation is included in the Conrad HH redemption, or what could be a good meeting point if my family insists of each booking their own hotel according to each individual party tastes/budget.

A CSR at the 800#, that knows what they are doing, can do this for you. The hotel can not. I presume all the points nights are gone, or you could just rebook and cancel the first reservation. That is the issue for an un-educated CSR too.

A CSR in the know can adjust your reservation. I don’t know exactly what they do. But it can be done.

I don’t think this is true. I had a very knowledgeable CSR try this for me several times when I was in a similar situation, and I couldn’t be done without canceling the reservation and rebooking. Therefore you run the risk of the reward nights not going back into inventory or not going to inventory immediately. Or your points not getting credited back immediately. He said it works if there is still standard award nights available for all your nights but otherwise they have to cancel it and rebook. He said they use to be able to do it in the past but Hilton has changed the system do they are not allowed to do this kind of manual change anymore. in my research I’ve never heard of anyone being able to accomplish this without cancelling and rebooking. If you know otherwise and know a CSR that can do this please let me know because I also have a stay that I’d like to rearrange so I can save 120k points

The Maldives is a little different the most normal vacation spots.
It is actually made up of about a 1,000 small coral islands grouped in a chain of atolls which span about 100 hundred square miles.
Almost every single tourist hotel exists on its own small coral island and there is limited travel between the various islands.
Once you arrive in the Maldives the hotel resort will pick you up at the airport and transfer you either via seaplane and/or a boat.
The idea is that you spend your whole trip at the resort.
The cost for airport transfers is typically high between $500 - $1000 USD per person for a roundtrip transfer.
If you decide to transfer between two hotel resorts that are far apart you would have to pay this cost twice.
Transfers between two hotel resorts can take up to a whole day if you require two seaplane flights as unless you are chartering a private seaplane.

A possible solution for Hilton members would be the new Crossroads Maldives island.
This island contains a SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton (lots of Hilton awards available) and the Hard Rock Hotel Maldives.
I know a lot of people would not recommend this as it is not the typical aspirational Maldives vacation.

Another solution would be to identify 2 resorts in the same atoll.
This would allow you to request a transfer via private speed boat from one resort to another.
The cost would be less than a seaplane but still be up to $500 depending on the distance between the 2 resorts.
This type of transfer is currently limited and possibly restricted due to the pandemic.

You should do more research on multi-island resorts in the Maldives.
I have not visited any of the resorts mentioned below but these are possible solutions.

Below is a list of some:

1. Fari Islands (Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Capella Maldives, Patina Maldives)
2. Naladhu Private Island, Anantara Dhigu, and Anantara Veli Maldvies Resort
3. The Residence Maldvies & The Residence at Dhigurah

I hope this information is helpful to you and good luck with the planning.

Have not done it since Covid, but have done it a few times. It does take some effort, but was possible less than a year ago....
