:-: Welcome to the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Wiki! :-:
Notes: All prices are in US Dollars and are exclusive of taxes unless specified (by ++)

Tax Information
• 10% Service Charge (levied by resort. For info on this and how it's distributed, see this post)
• 12% T-GST (Tourist Goods & Services Tax, levied by the Maldivian government, current as of Oct 1, 2014)
• Total tax is 23.2%, not 22% as one would think. Example; $100 + 10% = $110, then add 12% on to $110 for a total of $123.20
• • Tip: To work out prices before the 23.2% taxes, multiply by 0.81169, i.e; 123.2 * 0.81169 = 100
• A Green Tax of $6pp/pn (levied by the Maldivian government) has been introduced starting from 1 November 2015. Points/Redemption bookings are exempt from the tax for up to two guests per room

Booking with points
• Bookings must be cancelled 30 days prior in order to avoid one full night's charge at BAR. (previously 14 days)
• Website and phone agents state that a cash deposit equivalent to the BAR per night will be taken when booking stays with points. This is an error. NO CASH DEPOSIT IS TAKEN WHEN MAKING A POINTS BOOKING
• Free night certificate: The phone agent states that a cash deposit equivalent to the BAR per night will be taken when booking your free night. This is an error. NO CASH DEPOSIT IS TAKEN WHEN USING YOUR FREE NIGHT CERTIFICATE

• Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi is located in South Malι Atoll, 23km southwest of Malι and Velana International Airport [MLE] (also known as Malι International Airport, previously known as Ibrahim Nasir International Airport)
• Transfer experience includes personal service for your group after luggage pick-up until arrival on the yacht; yacht includes dedicated server for champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, and light snacks. Departure experience on the yacht is the same, and your group be personally escorted through airline check-in until airport security.
• Pricing in 2020 is $600++ per person, and in 2019 it was $350++ per person per way ($1724.80 return inclusive of taxes for 2 passengers). The price for kids 5 and under is complimentary while kids 6-11 years old are charged $300++ per person. If the yacht is not available, a speedboat will be provided by the resort. If this happens, you may be refunded the yacht transfer fee.
• See this post for a detailed review of the yacht transfer (Courtesy of jphripjah)
• Third party transfers are not permitted by the resort.
• Transfer to / from Conrad Maldives Rangali Island: A private seaplane transfer from the Waldorf to the Conrad, taking approximately 25 minutes, is approximately USD 8,125++. Accommodation:
At opening the resort defined Beach Villas as the lowest category of accommodation (only this category bookable with points). The next highest category was Reef Villas then above that, the Overwater Villas. Note: villas on the Private Island do not count.
This will change in 2020. Quote from the resort "Please be informed that for next year we have changed our villa category. Kindly note that the Reef Villa will be our base category, next will be the Overwater Villa and then the Beach Villa. Basically the Beach Villa will be a higher category compared to reef Villa and Overwater Villa."
See this post for the conversation related to this. Pricing has changed as well to reflect this. See below for 2020 pricing.
Note that as of August 2019 the BV is still available to book on points in 2020. This may change, however.

Getting a lot of pushback from Hilton after our stay regarding points. We received 99000 total points (33k base+ 33k diamond+ 33k promo) on a folio of $8,800 pre tax/service charge.

Do they not count Dive Center purchases (I know Dive center at Conrad doesn't count, so that would make sense) or Yacht purchases (Conrad doesn't count Seaplane because it is third party, but the yacht is not a third party purchase AFAIK)?
Even if those are excluded, folio would still be 6,400 pre tax/service charge. That should still be 192K points. What am I missing? Do they exclude spa too?

That seems wrong. Ask for a breakdown.

So on a total bill of $8,800, I earn points on $3,300. Super stoked. Left the resort thinking I'd earn 400K+.after Amex bonus.

As I see it, this is complete B.S on the part of Hilton and the resort.

Whats crazier is that I'll earn 1.5x the points on my 15x per dollar Amex card vs the 30x I allegedly get for the stay itself.

Hilton Honors Ambassador Can you help offer an explanation on what members should expect for earning points at this property? Its fairly clear that diving is a 3rd party and not eligible for points, but how do members know which establishments they will earn points at here? I would have assumed anything else charged to a folio here at this property would qualify, but perhaps there is some other factor here we need to consider that you can help with.

Transportation and dive center definitely do not earn. Spa and Spa Retail often do not if contracted out to third party. However, that still looks too low for $3,277.

Hadn't done the math before, but adding it up, F&B adds up to ~$4300 pre-taxes and fees. Although if they somehow account for my additional gratuities, that could bring it down to maybe $3600.

If they don't count the spa (which is named the W.A Spa) because it's 3rd party, what's the excuse for the resort owned/operated yachts, named after the island itself?

I mean, for all the exclusions/gotchas, why even give guests points for dining?

I dont know why transportation, in this case, would not qualify. Its seems specifically advertised as the resorts own yacht. Its not apparent its a 3rd party such as the seaplanes operated by TMA. Here is what it says;
"A shared return transfer on the resort’s yacht is US $600 subject to 23.2% tax and service charge per adult, Children aged 6 to 11.99 charged at US$300 subject to 23.2% tax and service charge with complimentary transfer for children below 5.99 for the year 2020 from Velana International Airport, Male."
I *believe* the dive price list had another company logo on it, which made it obvious it was a 3rd party.

Thoroughly reviewed the charges again and found receipts for my meals/spa.
Definitely no indicator of any kind that the spa is a third party. (Wheras the Dive Center receipt specifies "operating on behalf of Ithaafushi...")
The subtotal of all meals combined is slightly more than $3700 alone before any tips/fees/taxes applied. (4300 after tips, but before service fees and taxes)
I didn't include it in that figure, and I can't figure out the "PKG Dinner" charge. It seems likely it is part of our Stella Maris destination dinner (already $495++ PP), but nobody said anything about an additional charge, nor is it specified in the PDF.

Wait when did you get the points from your stay? We stayed the 5-12, and used points for 5-11, and then a free night certificate on the 12th. On hilton.com, for the nights where we used points it shows -120K (5th) ], and -480K(6th-11th) to reflect the points we spent. Then on the 12th, on that line item it shows that we earned 14,596 points (from a bill of $11K, similar to you). I wasn't sure where that number came from, but it broke it down as follows:

Base points: 4,532
diamond elite 100% bonus: 4,532
2020 Double rewarads promotion- double points: 4,532
MYway Preferences Bonus option: 1,000
Total: 14,596.

At first, I thought they were erroneously awarding us point based on a best available rate or something but does it actually emcompass all our spend at the resort? We're diamonds through aspire card, but Wasn't I suppose to get 45x points per dollar spent? Although it looks like dive center, spa and transportation are excluded from earning points, our Food and beverage portion was ~$4K, and 14,596 is nowhere near 31x points per dollar (excluding the 14K that will come from amex)....

Do I need to contact hilton? Does this 14,596 points correspond to our spend (somehow, even though this makes no sense) or is this based on a hypothetical best available rate for that one night?

When are points from your spend at the resort supposed to show up in your account?

You should have them by now.
We had to contact Hilton. I think initially we were awarded around 20K, after "correction", it was bumped up to 99K. I'm pretty certain the Amex portion is 15X and Hilton portion is 30X, not 14X and 31X.
Where are you getting that Spa and Transportation are excluded? Just from this thread or another source? I understand Dive Center exclusion, but there are no indicators that Spa and Yacht are third party. If they want to exclude transportation for the sake of it being transportation, then I guess I'll just have to accept that. But excluding the Spa seems absurd.

I'm also unclear on how the food & beverage is tallied. My grand total for food is around $5300. My subtotal is around $4300. If they subtract additional gratuities, that decreases it to $3650. I was given points based on a combined total of $3300 spend. Maybe somehow drinks are excluded too? ;-P

I left 3 days ago. Weather wasn’t great. Rained a lot during our 15 day stay. Was there in august as well. August weather was much better than October.

At our last stay in August I got the points breakdown and learned what counts/what doesn’t.

you only earn points on base spend so the amount before the 23.2% ++. Dive center and any other activities ran by Ocean Group do not count. It’s the same company that Conrad uses for water sports (diving included)

what counts :
Food base (actual menu price)
upgrade costs if any
room costs if any

transportation counted on my august stay (amount pre ++)

our spa counted as well (again pre ++)

didn’t spend any money in the gift shop so not sure on that.

3rd day here. First day had rain at noon and was overcast, then sunny during daytime the next two days, now it’s very windy at night (can’t really stay on deck). Pouring rain around midnight to early morning, it’s just unpredictable here.
