:-: Welcome to the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Wiki! :-:
Notes: All prices are in US Dollars and are exclusive of taxes unless specified (by ++)

Tax Information
• 10% Service Charge (levied by resort. For info on this and how it's distributed, see this post)
• 16% T-GST (Tourist Goods & Services Tax, levied by the Maldivian government, current as of Jan 1, 2023). Old 2022 rate was 12%.
• Total tax is 27.2%, not 26% as one would think. Example; $100 + 10% = $110, then add 16% on to $110 for a total of $127.20.
• Tip: To work out prices before the 27.2% taxes, multiply by 0.7862, i.e; 127.2 * 0.7862 = 100
• A Green Tax of $6pp/pn (levied by the Maldivian government) has been introduced starting from 1 November 2015. Points/Redemption bookings are exempt from the tax for up to two guests per room

Booking with points
• Bookings must be cancelled 30 days prior in order to avoid one full night's charge at BAR. (some days cancellation period is 14 days check your reservation details for the exact applicable cancellation policy)
• Website and phone agents state that a cash deposit equivalent to the BAR per night will be taken when booking stays with points. This is an error. NO CASH DEPOSIT IS TAKEN WHEN MAKING A POINTS BOOKING
• Free night certificate: The phone agent states that a cash deposit equivalent to the BAR per night will be taken when booking your free night. This is an error. NO CASH DEPOSIT IS TAKEN WHEN USING YOUR FREE NIGHT CERTIFICATE
This hotel is extremely popular. Rooms are released to be booked with points about 1 year in advance. It seems to be a partially manual process so it's not an exact science. After being released those rooms get booked within a matter of minutes. If you have specific dates you want you need to book them one at a time a year in advance, or risk booking last minute. Yes that makes it hard to use the 5th night free. You can book 5 individual nights and cancel them all to rebook getting the 5th night free, but there's only about a 50% chance the rooms go back into inventory so it's risky. There is no secret, just check Hilton.com all the time. If you don't want to do that, someone else will and they'll get the rooms.

Accommodation:
At opening the resort defined Beach Villas as the lowest category of accommodation (only this category bookable with points). The next highest category was Reef Villas then above that, the Overwater Villas. Note: villas on the Private Island do not count.
This will change in 2020. Quote from the resort "Please be informed that for next year we have changed our villa category. Kindly note that the Reef Villa will be our base category, next will be the Overwater Villa and then the Beach Villa. Basically the Beach Villa will be a higher category compared to reef Villa and Overwater Villa."
See this post for the conversation related to this. Pricing has changed as well to reflect this. See below for 2020 pricing.
Note that as of August 2019 the BV is still available to book on points in 2020. This may change, however.

So many in India. Since we have many different cuisines in India itself, we tend to have a huge spread of breakfast with lot of Indian food options. That's why I wasn't very impressed with WA spread but it wasn't any less or bad. It was great.

Weather was amazing. Sun was shining bright for 6 days. It rained for 5mins around 4pm on my 5th day. But that's about it. There were clear skies and brilliant weather for snorkelling throughout my stay.

Left side. But I don't think you can see WA. Even if you do, it will be too small to make out anything.
However, you will get a good view of Taj resort which is right under the flight path

For non-locals, the beauty of the Maldives might go away after several weeks, especially since there probably isn't much to do outside of work.
My butler is married to a maldivian and she said that she moved to Waldorf from other resorts because then she gets to go to Male easily on her day off where her family lives. Waldorf has regular staff boats to and from Male for supplies and staff travel. She said they just need to register if they want to go.

You can get quite good views of the WA on approach, and the planes did quite often come in view a great plane spotting option from breakfast when I was there.

I think someone posted a great approach picture a lot earlier in the thread.

Actually i think I did see it too. but the best views from the left side will be the various islands like the Taj resort and a few others under construction currently. But yea, approach usually is from south and left side of the plane will have better views.

Looking at FR24 there are 2 flights currently coming in (EK and QR) and both would have views of the WA as they're cutting south and banking left to approach.

Ultimately, it all depends on approach path, but left side is where you'll see it if you do come in on the right path.

I agree. Breakfast spread is not as extensive as I usually see esp in Asia where food culture is very popular. But quality is still great. I have no complaints at all.

This week, weather is still amazing. It's sunny and it rained a few times but only in the night. Woke up to wet decks. A little cloudy today, and the sea on the outer side a little on the rough and windy side. A few days ago it was better with calm waters. Still doable for strong snorkellers.

My priority is privacy and having stayed here now, snorkelling is priority too. The snorkelling is really very good and for me personally, I prefer to snorkel off own villa every morning, and sometimes in the nude too which is only possible from own villa . I am not sure where are the other entry points other than your own villa other than the 3 jetties inside the lagoon. I am not comfortable facing the lagoon as there will be villas on the other side and / or will face the yacht arrival path.

I am in 305. There are decent marine life on the abyss line right outside where I got to pet a sea turtle for a few minutes but 301 and 511 have a lot more fishes. These villas are 15 minutes away snorkelling. These villas are around the straits between the islands. This is the area where there are a lot of fishes on this part of the resort. I heard outside Yasmeen has a lot of fishes too but I have yet to try as it would be 30 minutes swim away or one has to cycle to the wedding pavilion and then start from there. Off 309, there is also an underwater island but be careful here as the currents are quite strong. I snorkelled across here this morning but beware, it is only for strong and experienced snorkellers. Saw 2 manta rays around there in the deep waters in between.

301 and 511 might have bright lights from inside the villa directly which bothers some people in this forum. I personally has no issue looking into Male day or night. If I want a good view, then Bora bora is much better. Maldives is so plain on the horizon by comparison.
So for me, I would prioritise snorkelling opportunities over seaview.

I have opposite priority as you. Just wonder, on the lagoon side, wouldn't there be yacht transfers and also water sports activities? I was told today that I can only kayak in the lagoon and to avoid going too close to the lagoon-facing villas.

Don't cycle all the way there. After crossing the bridge which is near Yasmeen from the direction of the 300 villas, there is a little access path on your left which runs parallel to Yasmeen. If you take it, it will deposit you where you want to be to begin snorkeling.

Im facing lagoon and it is private enough. I mean unless the people on the OWB have binoculars or a high end camera zoom. Boats and watersports come by but just a handful of times. I'm introvert and was never afraid of someone watching me... 😳😁😁

We were in 301, the lights from Male are quite bright but it did not really bother us. There is a big difference to say villas facing west, or from Amber, where there is much less light noise. That said, I agree with you - Maldives views are OK , you can seel Male in the distance --- but Bora Bora, like from the IC Thalasso, is lovely with the lagoon water and mountain in the background. Here's our comparison, and yes, we love our floats!

We were in 502 which is the first villa on the left as you cross the first bridge from Tasting Table heading towards Nava. You'd need to be sitting at the outdoor table on the deck to see the yacht arrive - you wouldn't see it from the pool due to the way the villa is angled. We go decent marine life due to being next to that channel under the bridge - we had rays, schools of fish, squid, sharks, etc. all come to see us - but ultimately if marine life is your main priority you should be looking at other resorts as it's definitely lacking here compared to more established resorts like the Conrad.

The light from Male definitely would have bothered me on the other side - it blocked out the star light - whereas on our side you could see the stars well. You do get the occasional kayaker heading to the 'Instagram island' but nothing intrusive. I may have felt differently if we'd been lagoon side futher down towards the beach where you would see more lagoon activity.

But this discussion is a good example of how different people have different priorities at resorts like this.

Is there a reason no one really talks about the 100’s villas? Is it because most people don’t get OWVs as award stays or because they are far from the restaurants? I lucked into an upgrade to a grand owv due to some errors Hilton made and was thinking about requesting one in the 100’s. I like the idea of having an unimpeded view off my deck and not having to see the lights from Male or the other villas across the lagoon.
