The resort benefit on the Aspire card only works at the ~200 hotels on the list at this link:
http://www3.hilton.com/en/resorts/index.html#
For existing Surpass card holders, AMEX verbally confirmed that on or after 20 January 2018, card holders can call in and request cards be converted to Aspire - while maintaining the same credit card number, balance limits, PIN, etc.

For the Aspire card, the Annual Weekend Night Reward will be issued in the form of a redeemable code and sent in an email from Hilton Honors to the email address listed on your Hilton Honors account. You will receive the reward email within 8-14 weeks after opening your Card Account and each year within 8-14 weeks after your Card Account anniversary date. E-mail for Hilton providing the free night certificate has been received by several people..

The Aspire has a $450 AF and the Ascend's is only $95. How is that going to work?

Our e-mail said Ascend is going to Surpass, which is what it used to be. Not Aspire.

I have no doubt that someone got a bonus for changing the name from Surpass to Ascend, and someone (perhaps the same someone) got a bonus for changing the name from Ascend to Surpass.

If I were naming the cards, the Aspire card would be the Hilton Honors Diamond card and the Ascend-Surpass would be the Hilton Honors Gold card. I haven't thought about what i would name the free card, but I expect I could come up with something similarly meaningful.

Someone should get a bigger bonus for making the cards a different color or material or something (all three Hilton cards basically look the same). At least the Marriott cards now look strikingly different despite the confusing names (the "Bonvoy Brilliant" is an excellent looking metal card, while the "Bonvoy" card with the artist design seems like it will look unique).

Can I apply for the Hilton aspire and get the bonus? Will Amex allows 3 hilton card albeit different level?
I have four HH Amex cards. I've received the sign up bonus for all four (including a NF card without lifetime language I met the minimum spend on just today). I've also upgraded twice, once from NF to Ascend, and once from Ascend to Aspire.

Does anyone who moved from Ascend to Aspire think that 'restaurant' categories have tightened up?

Pretty much any nightclub I spent in previously came under restaurants. Now I've noticed at least 50% of them going through as just a regular 3x purchase.

Some have still gone through, but some other bars aren't. So Im not sure what to do about that, thats approximately $4k in spend since I got the card a couple of months ago, or 36k points.

DP that I don't remember reading-- my wife got 2 free weekend night certificates this year. Based on the dates, she got 1 certificates 2 months after upgrading from free card, and another cert 2 months after her initial card anniversary date. Here are the dates:
5/31/17 applied for Surpass, downgraded to free card in June 2018
12/2/18 upgraded to Aspire for 150K
2/1/19 free weekend night
8/1/19 free weekend night
She hit the $4K spend for the 150K and hasn't used it much since, so she didn't come close to the $60K spend required for the free night. Can you think of any other reason she got a 2nd free night? It's basically 2 months after 5/31.

Is the Hilton no annual fee card a different product from the Surpass (previously Ascend) ?

I currently hold the Surpass (previously Ascend) and tried signing up today for the no annual fee card but got a notice saying Iím not eligible for the bonus.

They are different products.
The response you got isnít unique to Hilton cards. Itís just AMEXís way of saying they donít lijw you as a customer. Youíll liekly get that response no mTter whT card you apply for.

That has nothing do with you having the Surpass/Ascend. It has to with your history at Amex in general (opening cards, closing cards, downgrading cards, and "sock-drawering" cards, which Amex hates with a passion). See this thread all about that "no bonus" popup in the Amex forum::

Amex (USA) restricts bonus based on number of accounts opened/closed (June 2018)
