The resort benefit on the Aspire card only works at the ~200 hotels on the list at this link:
http://www3.hilton.com/en/resorts/index.html#
For existing Surpass card holders, AMEX verbally confirmed that on or after 20 January 2018, card holders can call in and request cards be converted to Aspire - while maintaining the same credit card number, balance limits, PIN, etc.

For the Aspire card, the Annual Weekend Night Reward will be issued in the form of a redeemable code and sent in an email from Hilton Honors to the email address listed on your Hilton Honors account. You will receive the reward email within 8-14 weeks after opening your Card Account and each year within 8-14 weeks after your Card Account anniversary date. E-mail for Hilton providing the free night certificate has been received by several people..

I just received a link to upgrade to Ascend and Aspire for 150,000 bonus points each, after meeting $3K & $4K minimum spends, respectively.
I upgraded my NF Amex to Ascend yesterday, and I'm on my way with that spend (it took ~12 hours to update the card type in my account online). Once I am close to the $3K, I am going to upgrade my existing Ascend to Aspire and start that one. That will leave me with two Aspire cards, and zero NF cards.
My question is - Should I convert my second Aspire to a NF to be eligible to upgrade in the future (once I've used my airline and resort fee credits)?

The priority pass that comes with this card (or any Am Ex card) will no longer work at restaraunts, etc that give a credit after August 1.

Will anyone call and try to wrangle compensation from Amex for this benefit devaluation ?

Curious if anyone here has the CSR and this card. I tend to focus my business travel at Hilton properties (~40 nights/ year) and put all of my travel on the CSR, and don't know if the extra benefits of this card are really that valuable after the sign up bonus. Am I just being foolish? Can this simply be downgraded to a cheaper card after the first year?

I have Hilton Gold and AA Gold status.

Yes, you can downgrade after the first year to the no-fee version...and then if you are lucky, get an offer to upgrade THAT card back to the Ascend card 1/2 a year later, lol.

Three reasons why I chose to renew my Ascend card after the first year:
  1. I consider the 12x HH points from the Ascend card worth more than 3x UR points from using CSR for stays.
  2. Hilton Gold status. I'll log ~20 nights this year-- not enough to earn Gold on my own, but enough to value having it.
  3. I am able to take advantage of some Amex rebate promotions, primarily those on various Hilton brands, to roughly offset the amount of the AF. (Does Amex offer such promotions on the no-AF Hilton card??)

Yes, I have Aspire and CSR. I only put Hilton-related spend on the Aspire. I've gotten good value. YMMV.

Very similar to darthbimmer. YMMV, of course.
  1. 14x HH from Aspire
  2. Hilton Diamond has value for me (bonus points, breakfast, upgrades, etc.) and I wouldn't earn on my own
  3. Airline credit, resort credit, weekend night, etc.
But changes to the airline credit and to my travel pattern may cause me to reevaluate come renewal time.

So I have the Ascend card, but I am now an AU on a Platinum card, so I get HH Gold status either way. Was going to cancel that card but then found the public upgrade offer for the Aspire card. I'm not sure I fly enough to use all of the $250 airline credit (would have to use for business travel without requesting reimbursement since we have corporate cards). I probably stay in hotels 15-20 nights/year between business and pleasure and try to focus my stays at Hiltons, though I have been at more Marriotts lately (because they have had the rooms that met my needs). I might be able to use the resort credit on a trip this fall and have been able to extract value from past free night certificates (when I had the Citibank Visa and received those automatically).

So it comes down to the value of Diamond vs. Gold. Is Diamond that better of a status as far as treatment and perks? I rarely get upgrades as a Gold but value the free breakfast.

WIth Diamond, you get guaranteed lounge access, if the hotel has a lounge.
You are a bit more likely to get an upgraded room, but it is best not to put very much value on this.

You will earn more points.
  • You will earn an extra 2 points per dollar spent.
  • You will earn the MyWay benefit of 1000 points per stay (less for some brands).
  • Last year, there was a quarterly promotion where Diamond earned triple points per stay, Gold only earned double points.
.

My situation

I applied Amex Hilton Ascend and got the bonus. I downgraded to no fee one.
I also has another no fee one which I opened years ago, I upgraded this to Ascend recently and got the upgrade bonus.
I have never applied for Hilton Aspire.
Can I apply for the Hilton aspire and get the bonus? Will Amex allows 3 hilton card albeit different level?

Hopefully someone can post the answer to if you will receive the Aspire bonus? I am not sure because you already received the Ascend bonus.
