The resort benefit on the Aspire card only works at the ~200 hotels on the list at this link:
http://www3.hilton.com/en/resorts/index.html#
For existing Surpass card holders, AMEX verbally confirmed that on or after 20 January 2018, card holders can call in and request cards be converted to Aspire - while maintaining the same credit card number, balance limits, PIN, etc.

For the Aspire card, the Annual Weekend Night Reward will be issued in the form of a redeemable code and sent in an email from Hilton Honors to the email address listed on your Hilton Honors account. You will receive the reward email within 8-14 weeks after opening your Card Account and each year within 8-14 weeks after your Card Account anniversary date. E-mail for Hilton providing the free night certificate has been received by several people..

UPDATE: I googled my own question and found a data point on another FT thread. Advanced purchases at Hilton Tokyo Bay do get reimbursed, and rather quickly. So great news there!!
Yes, the reason advance purchases for properties in the USA don't work for the resort credit is because for some reason advance purchases for USA properties are billed by Hilton central, not by the individual hotel. But advance purchases for properties overseas are billed by the individual hotel, so that's why do work for the resort credit. Amex needs to see the charge billed by the individual hotel to give you the resort credit.

I received the welcome bonus for the Aspire card even though I didn't complete the $4K minimum spend requirement. I might gave gone about the MSR when I booked refundable stuff to unlock the annual credits, but after the refunds, I am at $2400 right now. Will Amex claw back the Hilton points welcome bonus if I stay under the $4K minimum spend ?

Why risk losing the 150K points for $1600 in charges, presuming you have some time left to make those charges.

no, that makes no sense. Hilton points that are a bonus for signup like this do not sit at or reside at Amex. They are transferred automatically- immediately to Hilton.

No, I meant Hilton to airlines. Hilton points can be transferred to airlines. Poor transfer ratio but nonetheless it's an option.

Good plan if you want to risk making both Amex & Hilton mad at you.

AMEX might get mad, I doubt Hilton would give a damn. AMEX has been putting in policies to screw people the last 1-2 years so frankly I could give 2 darns whether they're upset. They can screw off.

amex can pull points from the hilton acc (i.e. with refunds) so presumably gaming the signup bonus would be similar. i doubt hilton would be able to reverse the airline transfers tho

No way to check on Hilton website the status of reward certificates right? Only the email we receive once the certificate is issued?

Correct (at least when I last checked). This is one place where Hilton are sadly lacking compared to the other hotel chains.

Cheers.

Call 1-800-4HONORS (+1-800-446-6677) or Diamond Desk.
They have the record of certificates. You will also have to call them to book.

Upgraded to the Aspire in early Dec and met the spend and just received the 150k points.

Amex charged me prorated annual fee in recent statement and will charge full amount of $450 in May (card anniversary date).

My initial plan was to keep the card for a year but due to change in circumstances, cannot afford to pay the $450 fee. So looking to downgrade to no annual fee card before May.

Any data points of Amex clawing back bonus points already deposited with Hilton?

Just want to say I'm a huge fan of the Aspire Card. There is just a ton of value there, especially during that first year. It's a great product, especially if you're someone that loves Hilton properties!
