The resort benefit on the Aspire card only works at the ~200 hotels on the list at this link:
http://www3.hilton.com/en/resorts/index.html#
For existing Surpass card holders, AMEX verbally confirmed that on or after 20 January 2018, card holders can call in and request cards be converted to Aspire - while maintaining the same credit card number, balance limits, PIN, etc.

For the Aspire card, the Annual Weekend Night Reward will be issued in the form of a redeemable code and sent in an email from Hilton Honors to the email address listed on your Hilton Honors account. You will receive the reward email within 8-14 weeks after opening your Card Account and each year within 8-14 weeks after your Card Account anniversary date. E-mail for Hilton providing the free night certificate has been received by several people..

For that, the list value equals the net value only if a cardholder would have spent the money at the resort anyway even if no rebate offer existed. So if a person got a spa service SOLELY because it was "free" then there is no net value. This is because, to that person the spa service was not really free -- because of the card's annual fee.
Resort credit is good on room rate and taxes, not just overpriced services. However, the qualifying list of resorts is limited. And many of them track on"resort fees" that you must pay if you book the room paying cash (credit card) that you would not pay if you paid with points. For this reason, I would find it hard to value the $250 resort credit at more than $200.

Similarly airline credits, even if converted to gift cards, are at most worth about 85 cents on the dollar to me. Airline gift cards are regularly available from other channels at 10% off of face value. Additionally, you lose the insurance components you would get if you paid for the tickets on a card like the sapphire reserve (which would also give 4.5% rebate) and have to juggle gift card codes. Or on some airlines (Southwest) there are other benefits you lose by paying with gift cards vs with transferred points.

Very long thread here. Is there a limit to the number of AMEX applications that I made within the past year? I applied for two and was approved for the AMEX Gold and BBP. I'm seriously considering the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. This seems to be a potential long term keeper. What do you guys think? I know it have no forex fee when used abroad, but is this card any good when used outside of the US? How many of you guys are keeping this card for the long term?

I'm keeping the card for the long term. Great card for anyone who stays at Hilton. Seeing the card is only $450 a year a year and I get the $250 resort credit (works at almost every hotel in Vegas) and the $250 airline credit right there you are getting $500 in benefits for a $450 card. I used the free night at the Paris Opera when rates were over $400EU a night. If you don't stay at Hiltons enough to be diamond then you get diamond status out of it and if you are earning diamond through points, etc that amounts to a lot of bonus points if you use it to pay for Hilton stays.

The only time I use this card if for the $250 resort credit and for Hilton stays (or if it is a merchant where a promo is attached). I have other cards that give a lot better return than Hilton points.

Thx James. Does AMEX have any limits on the number of approved apps within the past 3 months? I've had two cards approved by them in that period of time.

Here's a new one on me.

I applied for and was approved immediately for the Aspire on about Dec. 28. It arrived just a few days later on Jan. 2 or so, been using it all week.

At the time I applied they asked if I wanted an AU, I said yes, filled out my husband's information. Only one card (mine) comes (via FedEx).

I then went and set up the account on line, adding to my existing Amex account, and again they asked if I wanted to add an AU, again I filled out my husband's info.

His card arrives a few days later .

Yesterday I get not one but two letters from Amex telling me that my application for an Aspire card has been denied because of having too many Amex cards! Two different letters, with two different reference numbers. Right now I only have a no fee Amex, and the new Aspire, but I did have an Ascend (formerly Surpass) which I cancelled a long time ago (more than a year, maybe two).

I call in a panic, thinking they have rescinded the one I've received and have been using, but no. They were very vague, implied I had applied 3 times, I was adamant that I had not, but then they said my asking to have my husband as an AU was the same as another application! Wha??? Anyway, they said everything was fine. I double checked to make sure I would get the 150K sign up bonus, they said yes, everything is fine as long as you make the $4k spend.

This happen to anyone else?

I bought mine on the 2nd, they posted on the 3rd and were reimbursed on the 6th. I just booked a resort, that charge is pending, but I expect to get the resort credit.

By the by, does the AF count toward the initial $4k in charges to get the bonus 150K points? Thanks!

I bought 2 that posted 1/8. The credits haven't shown up yet, but I can see where my available credits for the year have been reduced to $150, so it should post in the next day or two.

I just logged into my account and saw an offer to upgrade to the aspire card and earn 150,000 points.

Does anyone know how long these offers hang around for? I wouldnt mind taking it, but I'm actually not due to be back in the states for another 3 months.....

Edit: I see its the standard offer for taking that card out actually, so similar question, is this more then the usual recent offer (I recall it being 100k points?) if so, how long would this be expected to be like this?

For you people that have received an upgrade offer from Ascend to Aspire, how long did you have the Ascend before seeing the upgrade offer? I've had my Ascend for six months/statements and spent a bit over 20' on it and check my account every day hoping for the offer (with bonus). I do not want to cancel my Ascend as it is my first US card and I want to keep the little history built up already.
