My casino host had expected me to get the credit the second time and was told by the front desk that they no longer do so. I assumed that it meant for stays booked at the hotel but it might have referred only to the casino rate.
We have an upcoming stay (December), booked directly with the Trop, using a targeted Player's Club rate. I sent the reservation details to the FT Hhonors rep Erin, who confirmed with the property that I WILL receive points for the stay, all Diamond benefits.

If your stay is before Christmas please post the results.

If your stay includes Christmas (or any later day in December) I will be happy to have a drink with you.

Return Visit

I stayed here last week for 4 nights. It was fine. On the positive side, I was given a suite upgrade in the Paradise Tower without asking. The room was not luxurious but it had a great view of the strip and was quite large. Also nice that it had a coffee/tea maker in the room which the regular rooms do not have. As noted by others, they have downgraded the breakfast. You go to the coffee shop next to Starbucks and you can choose 4 items so for me, it is more than I want and I never took 4 items. One day I did get a fresh fruit medley, a pastry and coffee. But there is cereal and hot items as well if you want them. My stay and points have already posted correctly. It's a very basic property; however, I did find all the staff to be very friendly. I got a low rate offer through a promo email directly from the hotel so paid $79 a night. It's nothing to rave about but it's okay. Having stayed there before, I knew what I was getting.

Can you apply the value of the breakfast voucher towards the full buffet breakfast? If so, how much do they consider it worth?

After having fairly high expectations for the SLS, having them taken down a peg by the initial reviews, and then still being thoroughly disappointed on a 2-night stay in early-October I'll probably give the Tropicana next time I'm in town unless I'm at the convention center or other north-strip conference location at which point I'll likely hit one of the HGVCs. I just never seem to be able to find the Elara at a reasonable rate...

Elara is a no go for me, being 100% non-smoking. I hear it is nice though! I would even settle for a balcony ...

I'd rather just stay at an HVGC. I have a real issue paying a resort fee when the internet speed is that slow. I'm going to Vegas in a couple weeks again and the HGVC on Karen is cheaper than the Trop is, and I'll be stuck paying a resort fee at the Trop on top of the room rate and will get a lot better upgrade at the HGVC if the 1 bedroom suite is available.

I agree in general, ESPECIALLY if I'm heading to a conference at the conference center or another north-strip venue (my last conference was at the Renaisance which is right behind The Riviera). I'm thinking I'd still consider The Tropicana IF I was in town again with a big group of folks spread around the various south-strip casino hotels as was the case back in July '13... for that trip we used HGVC points at the HGVC Flamingo, but a $59/night rate + resort fee would probably be a better value since HGVC Flamingo is rarely as cheap as HGVC Strip or HGVC Karen. If it were just my wife and I on a leisure stay, I'd probably go HGVC Strip if it was $62/night on corp code like it was back in late-September.

IIRC all the HGVC's in Vegas are smoke free.

It is a nice property and great locations but they have gotten really cheap about not upgrading people. When they first opened they were great about upgrading both diamonds and gold's.

I've settled on Elara as my "go-to," including another stay in November. It's not flashy, but it's solid and the location is great. I will keep my fingers crossed for a better option to be developed, down the line.

Posting at the TropLV at this moment - broadband speed is really slow with the free option @1MB d/l - results http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3870059500 - 41 ms ping time, 1.05M d/l and 0.35M u/l - - Paid option is $9.99 every 24 hours @ 5 MB d/l - our own T-Mo 4G LTE tethering would knock them off in a flash.

We haven't been back here in about 18 months and it isn't bad, and far better than before without the interior makeover, even the Bungalow hallways & entry from the covered parking lot area entrance has been detailed over, a lot more secure as a Trop Hotel Room Key is needed for entry to pass thru to hotel lobby for checking in. Line wasn't too long for regular folks but we had no wait at the VIP/HH guest check-in and staying at the Paradise Tower, the elevators are finally air-conditioned - and housekeeping supervisor are no longer banging or checkin every room at 9 AM in the morning and/or the DND card hanging on the outside door knobs are being noticed (and, we don't missed those delivery menus slipped under the doors) It's been quiet for 3 nights except for folks attending trade show & conference here, table games are almost empty till dinner. We ate earier at Beach Cafe, food was fine & priced a bit higher than expected but service was good - too lazy to drive the rental car out for dinner this evening. Covered parking lot just off the Strip was only about 50% full - things must be quite slow but we did noticed tourist groups checking in upon arriving by the busload.

Sounds like Hilton might have had a talk with them. Good to hear. I will not return the the Trop, or my clients, if I have a say in the matter (and I do 95% of the time). The things done in the past were terrible. Perhaps a little education in Hilton policies worked for the Trop. If you are there on Fri night - see how long the check in lines are. About two months ago the lines stretched throughout the lobby on a Fri around 5pm (45 min wait, at least to check in). Good they put you in the front tower.

Letitride3c enjoy your stay in LAS. My fair city.

I booked a stay here through Delta Vacations. I am HHonors gold. What is the best way to get my number attached. What am I entitled to since I did not book directly through Hilton? Also my parents are staying here as well a day after, what is the best way to try and get two rooms near each other?

Thanks

We returned here for a couple of nights during our recent stay in LAS.

We were upgraded to a suite in the Paradise Towers, which was a pleasant surprise. Our previous stay had been in a basic room in the other section a long way away.

We can't complain about the breakfast. The four choices in the food court provided us with plenty of food, even in the less-than-elegant setting.

We snagged Groupons in advance and ate in both restaurants on consecutive evenings. With the discount, the meals were reasonably priced. We preferred the food in the steak house to that in the Italian joint - maybe it was what we ordered.

We moved from the Trop to Bally's (on a relative's comp) for our last two nights. Being notorious low rollers, we actually preferred the Trop slots and payouts to those at Bally's and Paris but that's strictly anecdotal.

I'm not a cheerleader but we felt we were treated very well as a Diamond household for our $59 room rate.
