Do they charge for drinks at the Happy Hour? and how is the construction at Union Square? Thanks.

Drinks are $6 for alcohol, there are bottled waters, soda and coffee pretty much all day there for the taking. The square construction appears to be, I'd say, 80% complete.

You cannot just casually drop a mention of an elevator ride with a toothless hooker... how many HH points do you suppose that ran?

It was a few years back. Between the toothlessness, the filthy faux-furs, and delightful aroma, it was a great elevator ride. I do not know if the eventual patron earned points for charging it to the room or what, but it is possible that "it" never made it to the intended destination because it asked me for help locating a room # scribbled on a scrap of paper. I further say "it" because really, you never know, especially in that neighborhood.

We stayed there a couple of weekends ago. The room was small and in Tower 3 overlooking the courtyard/pool on floor 15.
The hallways in Tower 2 were okay, but Tower 3 halls were about as exciting as a college dorm. Nothing on the walls, just a bunch of doors in a hallway.
Non-smoking rooms in Tower 1 were hard to come by when we checked in.
Breakfast was okay in the new lounge at least for food. The view was excellent.

Hilton San Francisco for 117.00 USD
Just stumbled over this... in September, the "Best Avaiable Rate" at the San Francisco Hilton is 117.00 USD -
BEST AVAILABLE RATE (DJ) 2 DOUBLES
CLASSIC STANDARD ROOM LIMITED CITY VIEWS
- HILTON.COM RESERVATIONS ONLY
I have never seen published rates at this hotel so low - not even two weeks after 09/11. I think it's worth a FT thread...

Thanks for the tip. Was able to book a night at $126 (AAA rate) for October that I was planning to stay out at the airport for because of cost.
Any tips on how to save money on parking? $30 per night is pretty steep.

You might try parking at the city's Ellis-O'Farrell garage or check out

I got dizzy when I parked at the Hilton with all of the twisty ramps. I am such the suburbanite sometimes.

I picked up a $105 stay there over Valentine's Day weekend this year. The lower published rates do show up, but probably not as often as we'd like.

Because of the dot com meltdown hotels in San Francisco can be had for a lot less. I've attached a copy of the Priceline board which shows a number of people getting the two different Hyatt properties in SF Downtown for $55.00/night or less. Both Hyatt's are a lot nicer than the SF Hilton and Towers. Read the board before bidding on Priceline so you get the property you want.

Thanks for mentioning this. My sister is coming to the area to visit and I was able to get two rooms for $269 (less than the rate often is for one room).
The price had gone up to $118/night but this is for August!

I received this offer a couple weeks ago:
"Enjoy a special rate of $119 and 50% off parking at the Hilton San Francisco... Just stay between now and September 28, 2002... You must request Plan Code P2 to receive this offer.
It may be better to pay $2.00 more and get $15.00 off the parking.

I second the recommendation to use priceline and their helpful counterpart.
Just two months ago I got the Park Hyatt SF for 48 bucks a night. Beat that.

Take the road less travelled...but only if it means more miles.

Just an update, may have overbid but I was able to get two rooms at the Hilton downtown for $65 each per night on priceline for a stay this weekend.
