DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Sacramento - Rancho Cordova

Recently converted Doubletree Suites in Rancho Cordova near Sacramento, CA. Totally renovated, rooms are like new.

Check In

Check in was smooth and efficient. Friendly staff gave us our cookies, water, and breakfast coupons.

I did not use OLCI because a floorplan was not available, just room numbers, and I was unfamiliar with the layout. The hotel is somewhat spread out and a bit of a maze to get to the room with at least three different sets of elevators. After a couple of trips to/from the room you get the hang of it.

Room

All rooms are suites with a separate living area and bedroom. We were in a king suite, which was pretty good sized. HVAC worked well (at least from a heating standpoint), and we were able to control the room temp to our liking.

Living area had a work desk, large TV, sofa (I think it was a sofa bed), mini-fridge, and coffee/tea machine.

The bedroom area was a little tight, but not as bad as some all-suite hotels. Very comfortable bed and lots of drawer space. Large TV and many plugs available.

Sink/vanity was located between living area and bedroom with toilet and bath/shower combo in a separate closed area. I like this set-up as it makes the bathroom less crowded.

Overall the room was fairly spacious, well decorated, and had a brand-new look. Furnishings and fixtures had a quality feel to them.

The only downside we experienced was the in-room safe, which was unbolted at the bottom of the closet. So it would have been quite easy for someone to just walk-off with it. Also, the one in our room was locked when we got there, and, despite a couple of calls down to the FD, we were not able to get it opened.

Service

No issues with service. We had asked them to de-feather the room and this was done before we checked in. After we got to the room, the FD called to confirm that it had been done, which was appreciated.

Dining

Had breakfast both mornings of a two-night stay. Breakfast coupons covered one entree from the menu. The menu had several good selections and the food was tasty. Service at breakfast was friendly and efficient.

The menu shows an option for full Breakfast Bar and continental Breakfast Bar, but it was not available. Probably because it was over the Christmas weekend and occupancy was low. I'm guessing they have not actually implemented the Breakfast Bar yet, as the hotel has only been open for a couple of weeks. I'll be interested to see if they provide Gold/Diamonds with the option of choosing the buffet once they get it going. If they do, I hope it's for the full buffet.

Restaurant was open for dinner (and maybe lunch), but we did not try it.

Location

Hotel used to be the Hyatt House and more recently the Sunrise Hotel. It's located behind the Marriott, off Folsom Blvd at corner of Sunrise.

Parking

Parking was ample and free.

Overall

Enjoyed the two-night stay. Hotel is near the freeway, but we didn't notice a lot of freeway noise. Our room was overlooking the pool area, which wasn't an issue this trip, but I'd guess it could get noisy.

We'll definitely be staying there again.

Nice job, stanj! And here I am for some additional bits, staying 11-12 Feb 2017.

The property has been extensively renovated in a style similar to Danish (but brown and tan carpeting instead of wood flooring). The layout is semi-triangular, with an adjacent building with rooms x60-69. You want to avoid those rooms that face as the lobby faces (over Point East Drive), as they are closest to busy highway 50. On the other hand, X11-31 face Folsom Boulevard.

The dining area, very spare business area, a small "Made Market" with a few things to eat and drink, and there is a fitness center near the lobby that includes free weights, machines, mat, balance ball, etc. The outside pool and spa are in the "elbow" of rooms x24-40 even numbered rooms; these could be noisy in warmer weather. The pool and spa are open 10am to 10pm.

There is a free shuttle to points within 5 mi / 8 km (not SMF airport, nor downtown Sacramento,) between 7 am and 10 pm "based upon availability". Parking is free. The Sunrise light rail station to Folsom and Sacramento is a five minute walk away.

The "Business Center" is a joke - a niche in the lobby with one computer and small printer. The room house book indicates you can send documents to PrinterOn, but there is no such provision. Desk personnel are happy to help you print items out, but of course that's easier said than done if you have docs attached to email or in the cloud.

The hotel is very quick to fill up at times, notably like 10-11 February when Highway 50 shut down due to weather and Bay Area families attempting to drive to the snow rapidly filled up what had been planned to be a very slow night. Tonight it was virtually empty, my rate $84.15 + 11.66 taxes Senior Rate.

Breakfast is served 6am-11am daily, food service 11am - 11pm and there is in room dining 6am - 10pm (22% gratuity and $2.50 service charge), and there is a bar by the lobby. Though buffet breakfast is offered on the menu, the variable occupancy here means there is not often, if ever, a buffet option. Diamonds (and presumably Golds) are issued chits good for one beverage and one main ("entree") offering from the menu. My eggs Benedict came on untoasted muffin, slices of nasty reconstituted water bloated ham and baby potatoes that ranged from over to uncooked. (No idea how you do that!) The server, Maria, was attentive and helpful.

On checkin, I was efficiency greeted and given two bottles of water and a very crisp cookie. I inquired after my breakfast chit, and it was proffered. Lifts / elevators are a bit oddly placed (not near the lobby at all).

The rooms are well lit, and there are three floors. Elevators are by x28, between x47 and -49 (across from x33, and x48-50. Noise from Highway 50 is definite in rooms closest to the highway, though it's not excessively loud. There is an in-room safe, rather inconveniently placed on the floor of the bedroom closet.

There are a fridge, coffee set, the usual ironing set and luggage jack. Electric outlets are at power points with two 110 VAC US three prong and one USB outlets. These are by the work desk, on either side of the sitting room sofa bed; in the bedroom by the built in wood luggage rack, there is a US 110 VAC double outlet.

WiFi premium was 5.55 Mbps down, up at 5.57 Mbps. There is an Ethernet cable at the work desk.

This is generally my go-to hotel when I'm in the SMF area. Stayed in both the regular and deluxe suites. Deluxe has a "wet bar" (ie sink) in the fridge area and is a little more spacious. Staying in the bi-level loft suite next week.

Breakfast has always been a buffet when I've been there, but with the option of getting something from the menu as well. I've ordered Eggs Benedict or an omelette and ate from the buffet while waiting. Breakfast staff has always been great - especially Chad and Amber. Breakfast is now checked from a list when you arrive. Just give them your name and you're good. Applies to Gold/Diamond and breakfast included rates.

Staff has always been great and responsive - including the GM. He fixed a rate issue for my next stay quickly via email.

Rooms have always been clean and comfortable. It's surprisingly quiet despite its location right next to US-50. Noise has never bothered me.
