On line check-in question

I'm staying at the Hilton Jumeriah Beach tomorrow. I've gone to do online check in but only been offered a standard room. Am I more likely to get an upgrade if I wait until I get to the hotel?

Are you Diamond? If so, I would contact the hotel and ask what they might assign you as a Diamond. That has worked for me several times. You rarely see Diamond upgrades in OLCI. But talking to them before arriving seems to be relatively effective. If an upgrade is important, I almost always contact after reading what OLCI is offering.

Second choice would be to just show up, and remind them you are a Diamond.

If you are expecting a free upgrade but don't have elite status...good luck.

I have often seen that a standard room shows up in OLCI the day before arrival, but the morning of arrival an upgrade is reflected. I suggest that you do not complete OLCI the day before arrival if you are expecting or hoping for an upgrade.

I'm a Diamond member

With Marriott I have gotten upgrades after checking in via the app but never with Hilton. With Hilton, I just wait until I get to the hotel to check in.

Many properties start room assignments the night/early morning before you arrive. I always mention something in the notes (or call as also mentioned) if an upgrade is important to me.

Good luck!

I look at the app the night before arrival: sometimes it says I've been upgraded (the wording is something like since you are a Diamond member we've upgraded you). If it doesn't say that, and I care about an upgrade, I wait until the next day to try OLCI, or until I get to the hotel.

My experience - If you OLCI, the hotel will pre-print and pre-arrange an arrival packet for that room you picked, so there is zero incentive for them to 'upgrade' or change the room to a new one when you arrive.

Yeah, same here. As both a Gold and Diamond, every time I've used OLCI I've never been upgraded. Not much incentive to use the app to checkin.

And Hilton say they don't guarantee the room you select. I think the advantages of OLCI are all on the Hiton side rather than the guest side.

It's a bit like airline seat selections that are always "subject to change"

Anyone else noticed that OLCI seems to constantly offer only one room?…..no map or alternative rooms to choose from, just a simple “ we have one room available right now, check in now and we will do our best to upgrade you on arrival “……. Kinda defeats the objective.

Over the past few months, I haven’t been able to select a room at all. Dozens of stays across all different brands.

99% of the time, the app and website say “we have no rooms to display, but rest assured, we’ll do everything we can to upgrade you” and my only option is to click through to complete the process (or close the page/app).

Same. Either that or just one room so you can't really choose (I suspect this is the room they assigned you basically).

Yeah that's happened in a few hotels this year - just means that's the room they want to give me and they've already prepared the key card.

Even when there is a choice of room, never had a further upgrade if I finish the check in even without requesting the digital key, either I accept the upgrade showing in the app or don't do anything and see what happens at the front desk
