Why is an upgrade from a king to queen bed acceptable?

Frustrates me that a hotel can upgrade you and then downgrade the bed at the same time.
Happened again tonight.
Was simply told 'most people do not notice it is a smaller bed'. That makes it okay does it?
So was given a choice. Have a crap room with a king or a better room with a queen.
I guess the hilton promise of 'we'll make it right' is not worth the card it is printed on.
Maybe to smaller people it is not a problem.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't spend a lot of time looking out the window when in a hotel room. Comfortable bedding, and other in-room features mean much more to me.

Oh the front desk that is not manned lol Just walked in at 10.30pm and nobody there. Is the same at other times. Maybe they watch via a camera, but anyone can just walk in. Not the most secure large hilton.
Didn't even know you can do that.
We are quite used to only being one in a room. Why do they do that?
Maybe after 60 stays this year I am expecting too much from Hiltons!

I'm curious. Was the "crap room" the one that you booked? If so, I'm not sure I see any problem, as upgrades aren't guaranteed. Lots of people (including some couples) wouldn't care about the downsizing to a queen bed.

I've no idea why Queen beds are even put into rooms.
Mind you I've seen rooms described as double beds with king beds.
I accept that if you are both small it is not an issue.
My point was why do Hotels think it is okay to change a king bed booking to a queen bed booking?
That is just wrong.

My complaint isn't that hubs and I have to sleep in a smaller queen bed when we specifically book a king. It is that these rooms always seem to have TWO queen beds with the extra bed taking up all the floor space (often the available space that is used for a sofa or lounge chair in a king bed room).
