DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Victoria {CAN}

Check In Check in went smoothly. The front desk rep was friendly and explained features of hotel and Diamond perks.Only hiccup was that the keys didn't work to unlock the room. I went down and had them re-key the cards, but they still didn't work. I called down and they sent a maintenance person up. In the meantime, the keys started working. Maintenance person thought the door-latch was not fully engaged, which would have caused the problem. Probably my trying to open it and pushing/pulling on the door finally got the latch to "click." Room We were pre-upgraded to a one-bedroom suite. It actually showed the upgraded room on the reservation about a week before the arrival date. Nice big living room space with small dining table, wet bar w/ mini fridge and microwave, couch w/ coffee table sitting area, large desk area, and big tv. Lots of drawer space. The separate King bedroom was small. Almost no space to walk between the wall w/ mounted TV and the bed. The bed was comfortable and nightstands had drawer space and multiple electric sockets w/ USB chargers. Seems like many hotel designs are going away from nightstands with drawers, which I find annoying. I like to have a place to store things out of sight.Bathroom was decent-sized with a fair amount of counterspace. Service Service was good, overall. Housekeeping was quite prompt in servicing the room on most days and did a good job. Service at dinner in the restaurant was a bit lackadaisical the one time we ate there. Dining The full buffet breakfast in the restaurant was included for Gold/Diamonds. It was a pretty good spread, with eggs, bacon, etc. Also had a waffle maker and good selection of fruit and yogurt. Oddly, the waitstaff would bring water, but you had to go and get coffee yourself, which was kind of inconvenient.I believe you could order a la carte also, but we didn't bother to look at the menu. Not sure if there was a dollar limit on what you could order, if you went that route. Location Great location, just behind the Empress. Easy walk to just about anywhere around the Inner Harbour and beyond. Street noise can be an issue, even on the higher floors. Parking Valet parking only at a hefty price (CDN$20). There seemed to be a lot of street parking available, which could be paid through an app, so you can "feed the meter" remotely. We opted to park at a great (and very cheap) city parking garage two blocks away--Broughton Street Parkade. Open 24 hrs, first hour free, evenings and Sundays free. Total cost over a four night stay was less than one night of valet parking. Granted it was over a weekend and we were in and out, but maximum 24 hr rate was $12. Overall Stating the obvious, but this is definitely not the Empress. It's a good hotel in a great location at a decent price. Depending on the room and floor, you might get some good views of the Empress, Parliament Bldg, and Harbour.Overall, we had a great stay at this hotel in one of our favorite cities.

A Hilton property finally in Victoria :):D Any idea what this was before it became a Doubletree?

Looks like it's in a great location.

I believe it was an apartment building. Most rooms also have a balcony. Every time I have stayed I have been upgraded to fantastic one bedroom suites. Highly recommend this place! I actually prefer the rooms better than the Empress.

It was the Executive House Hotel, which apparently was a hotel/apt mixed-use property. Looks like it opened as a Doubletree last year.

Times Colonist article

For anyone planning to drive there, the entrance is actually on Burdett Street across from Milo's Greek restaurant.

I had the exact same experience with the doors and keycard one month ago, so it appears to be an ongoing issue. We arrived and departed via seaplane, which was less than a five minute walk from the hotel (and no need to worry about a parking fee). The location is excellent and the service was quite friendly as well. One oddity in the design is that the highly reflective tile on either side of the door allows someone in the hallway to partially see into the room, aided by an unusually large gap at the bottom of the door. Despite that, I would highly recommend this hotel.

I had an odd experience at this hotel recently. I was upgraded to the 1 bedroom penthouse suite as the hotel is full and we had 3 rooms booked. Upon entering the penthouse suite, only the bedroom and bathroom were accessible but not the rest of the suite due to locking doors blocking the rest of the area. We ended up asking the front desk why we only had a 1/4 penthouse. They offered to open the doors to the rest of the suite for $400. Not much of an upgrade when you only get a 1/4 penthouse. Ultimately, we turned down the 'upgrade' and got a regular room with a view. It is a decent hotel but I would definitely check out other options before returning to this hotel.

Any recent reviews of this hotel?

Staying here for two nights.

As a Hilton gold was proactively upgraded to a deluxe suite.

The deluxe suites are bigger but are located on lower floors (3rd to 9th floor). If you want a better view the higher floors regular suites are a better choice.

For the breakfast benefit Buffet breakfast is not being offered right now due to covid so they are allowing you to order off the menu.

the hotel is responsive through messaging in the Hilton app and also ask for your cell phone number at check in to keep in touch with you via text during the stay.

Really liked this property when I stayed there a few years back. It was nice for a quick overnight trip and I was upgraded to a suite several days in advance. Hopefully us non Canucks can go back sometime this year.

Just had a two night stay here. Originally booked a "King Bed - City View" and was upgraded via the new upgrade notification system to a suite with a city and (in the distance) a view of the mountains in Washington state.

As previous reviewers have mentioned the bedroom itself is fairly small but the bed was super comfortable. The living room was large and had a microwave, kettle etc and opened up onto a small balcony looking towards the mountains, BC Parliament etc.

Housekeeping is available upon request.

Breakfast was excellent. You could basically order whatever you wanted from the a la carte menu. There isn't a buffet. Portion sizes were large.

Location is pretty much as good as you can get for downtown Victoria with buses from the ferry terminal and airport stopping just a few minutes walk away. We had a rental car and had no issues parking it on the road overnight for free.

I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel last week and was assigned an 11th floor room with 2 queen beds and outstanding city views of B.C. Legislature and Royal B.C. Museum.

Location is super central across the street from the iconic Fairmont Empress.

Did you hear any construction noise from the project across the street? (not sure of the exact direction).

What was the Gold/Diamond breakfast situation?

The work on the Telus Ocean tower has just begun with crews digging out the foundations so no noise I heard during my stay. FWIW there's a good look at both the new tower and the adjacent DoubleTree in the photo in this Telus link but bad new is many hotel rooms will lose their choice city & harbour views. I did snap this photo of a local resident with the construction work below street level in the background.

Sorry but dunno as I'm only a lowly Silver and ate off-site for breakfast.

Aww cute, looks just like all the west coast sea gulls - he's got his 3 year old plumage.

I specifically asked for a room opposite the construction (we'll be there in July) so hopefully it will be ok.

I called to ask about the breakfast "credit" and she said "not in Canada, we give you a full buffet" so was hoping to get a critique of the quality.

And since it looks like there is no furniture on any of the balconies I guess they aren't "sitting out on" balconies - a shame.
