Redmont Hotel Birmingham, Curio Collection by Hilton {US-AL}

The historic Redmont Hotel in Birmingham, AL (US) underwent a major renovation in 2015 and joined Hilton's Curio Collection. Link: hotel website.

I've got a reservation there for the end of May. I'm curious if anyone in this forum has been to this property recently and can offer a report. Either way I'll post my findings here after my trip.

This is my first post on FT, so please feel free to regard it with the usual suspicion that accompanies posts from new profiles. I've been lurking for several months and have finally been tempted to post because I stayed at The Redmont several weeks ago and very much enjoyed my stay. I am a HHonors Diamond member and came to Birmingham to stay at The Redmont for my birthday.

What impressed me most was the energetic staff. Harris the doorman/valet was enthusiastic about welcoming us to the Redmont and gave us some parking tips, even though we valeted. Zach at the front desk told us of the history of the hotel as he escorted us to the elevator. I don't remember the bartenders' names, but they genuinely wanted to know how we enjoyed the cocktails that they had created for the menu. Maybe it was the "newness" of it all, but everyone seemed excited to be working there.

The renovation was very well done - they kept some classic features (like the chandelier and the handrail) but otherwise did a more modern look. It felt like a very expensive and luxurious place to be. We had a suite that was very oddly shaped, with a sitting room at the end of a long hallway. However, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was small, but spa-like.

The Harvest restaurant was exceptional. We enjoyed the Oysters Redmont and the aforementioned cocktails. There was a big crowd at the bar when we arrived late on Friday night, and Harvest had a big crowd for Sunday brunch. The lobby/bar seemed like an exciting place to be, and it appears that Harvest was attracting patrons that were not staying in the hotel.

In all, it was a great experience and I want to go back once the rooftop lounge opens. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to being a regular poster at FT.

Very nice hotel

Check In Very easy and quick check-in. Room Spacious room and bathroom. Large windows with a nice downtown view. Due to the moisture the room smelled a bit though. Service Very friendly staff, also at the bar and the Valet parking staff was very friendly. Dining The food is good, the drinks were disapointing. Very small glasses and they didn't have real tonic water. Location Excellent location to explore Downtown on foot. Overall Nicely renovated and we had a very pleasant stay.

Stayed here Jan 9-10 overnight with a friend.

I was upgraded to a spacious suite on the 10th floor with views that my friend loved. The bedding was amazing comfortable. I was given 2 bottles of water at check in and two more were available in the room, complimentary.

We were given a voucher for $15 per person for breakfast. Restaurant prices were much lower for breakfast than I expected for a hotel of this calibre and reputation. My friend and I got 2 orders of biscuits and gravy w/ grits, a side order of sausage, a side ordered English muffin, and two coffees. The bill came to $25. The food was delicious (the grits, amazing).

Valet parking is $26, but I parked in a city garage on the same block for $8 overnight (2:30 pm to 9:45 am the next day).

Staff were good or great throughout the stay. The hotel is walking distance to a number of eateries and bars.

Any recent stays, still $15 breakfast voucher for Diamond? Looks like it's near lots of bars & restaurants.

This was a delightful hotel with lots of charm and character. It was not a cookie cutter Hilton property. I highly recommend it. The lobby was small and buzzy, with comfortable seating. Check in was to the side. The hotel is 14 stories high with just a few rooms on each floor. I like the sense of intimacy.

We booked a suite and were upgraded to the Presidential Suite. (I am a diamond.) It was very nice. It had a tiny kitchenette area on entering the room with a refrigerator and microwave oven. The living room was large. The bathroom had a massive walk in shower. There was a lock off door to an adjacent room, so this could be a great suite with two bedrooms for a family. I was given a bag with two bottles of water and two squares of chocolate at check in. Because we were in this suite I was allowed unlimited water.

We were given breakfast vouchers that we could use for $10 off in the cafe or a total coverage of the buffet in the restaurant. We chose the latter. Breakfast was decent, with the highlights being biscuits and gravy and a potato hash casserole. There is a rooftop bar that opens at 4pm but we never made it up to it. There is no executive lounge.

Staff was universally warm and helpful.

The hotel was centrally located in Birmingham. It was just a couple miles from the compelling Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, a superb look at the challenges blacks faced in the segregated south. The museum is across from the 16th Avenue Baptist Church where Martin Luther King Jr spoke and 4 girls died in the 1963 racially motivated bombings. It's an easy drive from the hotel to some excellent restaurants. We went simple and went to one of the locations for Saws BBQ.

Booked a 1K room. Arrived and had been upgraded to a suite. No mention of upgrade at front desk. Check-in agent was frazzled... key programming machine had been down and there were lots of folks lined up. Check-in agent didn't know anything about breakfast offerings, except that Diamonds get $12 off anything they purchase in the restaurant.

Valet was fast and parked in a lot right across the street. $30 is steep, but it is what it is.

Room was oddly shaped but very comfortable overall. Bathroom was huge. Shower uses a "rainfall" style head which I don't prefer. Toiletries were high-end and plentiful.

The restaurant/bar area was busy and the food was quite good.

Breakfast was not served in the restaurant. Breakfast was served at a little cafe behind the front desk. The cafe had 3-5 offerings with no prices listed. Charges couldn't be made to room and they make that very explicit. Cafe hours are listed as 6:30AM to 9:30AM. I showed up at 7:00AM and was told by the server that "we're not ready yet, give us 10-15 minutes".

All in all, it's a beautiful property and has a great old-school vibe. The room was quite. The A/C blew cold. Water pressure was so-so. Dinner offerings were excellent. Breakfast could have been stronger.

I'd rank this on-par with the Hilton UAB. This property is more aesthetically pleasing and has better furnishings, but the Hilton's dining offerings are stronger and there is no parking fee.
