Yet another Las Vegas question

I know that it has been discussed several times on the board, and I've read several of the threads, but I'm curious which property people recommend for HHonors stays in LAS. I spoke with the folks @ the HHonors desk this afternoon and they promise me that I'll get my points if I get a receipt (including Ballys, Flamingo, Paris, etc.), and I'm really not too worried about that based on HH desk's ability to get other stuff to post.

My bigger concerns are finding a nice property for a group of 25-ish guys to hang out in and that is decently close to the strip and affordable.

Any recommendations??

Thanks,
Seth.

Seth -- Paris, Bally's and Flamingo are all on the strip, next to each other (Paris and Bally's are even connected). My personal choice (although I by no means belong to the 25-ish category ) would be Paris. Although it's a bit more expensive than the rest of the bunch (but definitely not prohibitively so), it's a newer property, and rooms are much better IMHO.

You may want to see the thread Las Vegas Promos (among many others) in the Las Vegas Forum of the FlyerTalk Travel board.

Are Hilton points really your biggest concern when staying in Vegas. I am a mid twenties girl who just came back from Vegas last month, as much as I love love miles and points, I went the cheapest way possible and didn't worry about the points. If it is just for a weekend think more about fun and entertainment than the HH points. If you are looking for the other young hip single people check out hanging out Hard Rock, Luxor, or Mandalay Bay. If these are bit out of your price range check out Ecalibur as it is connected to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. We spent very little time in our room and were glad we didn't drop alot of money on the room. Check out my trip report in the Las Vegas forum. I wouldn't reccomend the Sahara simply because it was a bit too far, but the gambling was cheap.

other than convention days and New Years, if you're in Vegas midweek in December and January, don't pay more than these rates at Park Place Properties:

Las Vegas Hilton - $30-60 per night or better
Ballys - 49 - 69 per night or better
Paris - 69 to 89 per night or better

If you don't see these rates on their website, call and ask for them.

I find all three properties to treat me well, although Paris is my favorite.

Last month I stayed at the Flamingo for $44 night. The Hilton points posted promptly. I booked my reservation through the actual hotel property site because the rate was $40 less than what I was getting from the Hilton reservation web site.

I wasn't that impressed with the room, but the location is nice.

satori -- There is no way you could've gotten a rate at the Flamingo hotel from the Hilton web site last month, as this property is not a Hilton anymore (although it does participate in the HHonors program) and has not been offered as a booking option at the Hilton's web site for quite a while. Most likely, you are confusing the Flamingo hotel with the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at the Flamingo Hilton (an all-suite property, almost the same name, but not quite the same!), which is indeed available to book through the Hilton's web site.

Paris Las Vegas vs. Embassy Suites Paradise Road

Hi All,
I'm going to be out in Vegas for the first time in early January for a convention (it's at the LVCC). I'm looking at different hotels & have narrowed it down to the Embassy Suites on Paradise Road and Paris, Las Vegas. All things being equal, I'd love to hear recommendations from other FT members on which they'd prefer (the Paris is coming in at about 25% less per night then the Embassy Suites, but the Embassy Suites seems like an easy walk to the convention center) as well as amenities, chances of being upgraded (thatnks to FT, I'm Hilton Gold!), etc... Anyway, as always, thanks for the help!
Regards,
John

John -- Since your convention is at the LVCC, why not stay at the Las Vegas Hilton then?

Paris Las Vegas is one of my favorite properties in Vegas, but it's on the Strip and not very convenient if you need to commute to the LVCC for meetings.

I've stayed at both properties several times this year. If you want the Las Vegas "experience" stay at Paris and enjoy all the things to see and do at properties on the Strip. If you'd rather get down to business, I recommend the ES-Convention Center. It's a nice hotel and easy to get in and out, when compared to a large Strip Hotel/Casino. The convention center is just down the street from the ES. The ES provides an amenity box with water and snacks in your room when you arrive and the staff has always treated me well. Also, there are some nice restaurants nearby.

The Hilton rooms are not as nice as the ES IMHO.

Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, the Las Vegas Hilton doesn't have any rooms available for the dates I want. I'm leaning towards the ES, but would really like to hear more opinions...
Thanks again!

I can only speak for the ES CC, but I really enjoyed it, as for upgrades, there isn't much except my Diamond amenity. However the rooms are very nice, breakfast and happy hour are great, staff was attentive, no complaints, highly recommended as far as needing to be near the CC: one side note, watch the phone calls, they kill ya, and they also Tried to charge me for LD calls after four rings whether anyone answered or not. An example; LAS to Los Angeles, no one answered (no ans mach either) just rings was 11.75 a pop.. I complained and they were all removed, but the point is just watch out for it... 1.00 for local

I've been in Vegas all week. I'm at the LV Hilton now, and I can't speak to the ES, but I was at the Paris earlier in the week. Really liked its atmosphere (the fake sky is neat, really, and the big fake trees are darn good fakes) compared with some of the other casinos; also, very well connected if you're interested in visiting some other nice casino-hotels (walk right through the shops arcade to Bally's, which has monorail to MGM Grand or moving walkways/escalators to Caesar's, Bellagio, or the Barbary Coast; also, Paris is next door to Aladdin and the Desert Passage shops---not a very long walk). However, I wouldn't want to try and get to the convention center every day, especially if I was going to go back and forth to the CC more than once a day.

Other comments on Paris: pretty rooms that really did feel French; as a Gold, I was upgraded to a 19th-floor room with a nice marble bath and furnishings and a great view of the Strip, including Bellagio's justifiedly famous dancing fountains. Got the upgrade by checking in at the baggage claim "front desk" at LAS; it's right next to the MGM Grand's check-in area. No free breakfast, though; on the other hand, Paris' buffet consistently vies with Bellagio's for honors as the top gourmet-quality buffet on the Strip. Gym is $25 a day; not free or discounted for Hhonors VIPs, so I didn't use it.

I know you are leaning towards the ES...when I stayed at Veags earlier this year, I stayed at the Doubletree. I fully enjoyed that place the room is huge and unlike the strip, it's very quiet

Regarding the Doubletree, I just learned that they offer a free shuttle that leaves every hour for Mandalay Bay. For the return trip, the pickup is 15 minutes after the hour but one must call about a half hour ahead of time to reserve it. I am looking forward to my stay there on Tuesday.

I would double check the Las Vegas Hilton on www.lvhilton.com . Only date in January that shows unavailable is Jan 31 . Also, check the special packages. I got a mailing for 2 nights for $99 all month with a bunch of other stuff added. Remember the is a place to check in at the airport and if you are checking in at the Hotel, use the VIP line if you are a HHonors member, sometimes the other line is long.
