Request upgrade on Hilton app

Does it actually work at all?

Every time I attempt to press it for all my reservations - whether corporate rate, website rate or redemption - I get the same generic message that "upgrade is not available but we will try our best at check in".

Should we even bother? Anyone successfully attained any upgrade through the app or is this another IT flaw?

The request to upgrade on the app has got to be for the future, like electronic check-in and digital door key. Because it sure as heck doesn't do a darn thing. I would imagine this option will be functional later down the road. I was shocked that it actually worked for me one time last month in Austin. It sure would be great to know in advance (based on elite level) that one has been upgraded like some airline loyalty programs have in place. But for now, I will continue to call the front desk on the day of my arrival and make the request. Unfortunalty its been 50/50 at best. In Euroupe it's much better. Diamond level. Dallas, TX.

**edit re: above....I called the Diamond Desk after I posted. I'm incorrect. It's for eStandby with a charge. Rep advised me to continue to call the hotel or request comp upgrade in person. Although, I still like the idea of an upgrade button. Lol.

Huh? From my experience, that button just takes you to the estandby upgrade options that charges a fee. The same ones that appear right after you book a room. I don't ever see any "free" upgrades.

I frequently see "free" upgrades - generally 2/3 stays.

I wonder if that's a Diamond benefit? I'm only gold - and see only paid ones.

Diamond here....I use eCheck-in via the iPhone app 100% of the time.

Never once been offered an upgrade when using the "Request Upgrade" app. This includes stays at HI, HGI, ES, Hiltons, and WA.

I was gold until a few months ago and used to see the odd zero cost upgrade on the NOR1.

Not very often though. I'd say maybe one in six or one in seven would show a zero cost option.
