Impossible to log on to WiFi
I have been traveling around in USA for 1.5 weeks now, staying at different Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn. In all places it has been impossible to log in to the WiFi. I have more than 50 nights earlier this year, and this is the first time I have this problem.
I am a Diamond member, and try first to log in with my HHONORS details. Impossible because the fields are write protected. Then trying Complimentary. Also impossible because the room number is write protected. I have the same problem on both my iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2, both running iOS9.1 At several of the hotels they say that several guests complain about the same. Yesterday I experimented, and I finally was able to find what caused it. I am using SwiftKey as an extra keyboard. If I remove SwiftKey, everything works fine. It does not help to switch to another keyboard, you have to emote SwiftKey. It's difficult to say who is to blame, maybe a combination of, Hilton, Swift and iOS9.1? I don't have problems with SwiftKey in any other apps, so it must be the combination with Hilton. Really annoying. Hilton has to look at this. I will report to SwiftKey too. |
I'm using SwiftKey Beta on my Android device and had no problem logging into Hilton wifi last night in Cupertino.

An update:
I sent and email to SwiftKey, and they replied fast. They knew the problem very well. It's a bug in iOS 9 that affects all third party keyboards. It's nothing they can do, but they are working with Apple for a fix. They also told me that I don't need to remove SwiftKey. I just go to any other apps BEFORE logging in and change to Apple's keyboard. I tried it now here in LA, and it works. I tried to change keyboard from within the login, but that didn't help. |
Thanks for posting this - as usual the front desk staff at "all" properties say it must be a problem with my device - ugh.
Thought it probably lied somewhere with third party keyboard. Just never had time to figure it out. Also as a workaround -albeit a hassle - I can log in while using my Bluetooth keyboard. Look forward to keeping tabs on this thread to see final resolution. Thanks again runarbg! Safe travels to all!! |

Ok, technically yes, but not "self inflicted" - actual software glitch caused by whomever at third party software vendor / Apple.
Sorry if I misled anyone. |

Sorry if I misled anyone. However, I do understand your point-of-view. A mediocre or bad Front Desk representative will pass the buck. That might have been the case for you...and they simply got lucky in that the problem really was with your device. My comment wasn't meant to be snarky or unwelcoming. Sorry if that's who it seemed. Hopefully, you'll stick around here at FlyerTalk. |
