Obviously would be good to know what the requirements are but that doesn't mean we will know.

Does anyone know the amount of members (total members) in the other programs that offer Lifetime status? Just curious as I believe Hilton has 55 million members and I'm wondering how this compares (and then obviously if the Diamond and Gold will be eventually included or just diamond.)

If the other programs have significantly fewer members then I imagine it will only be Diamond but if they are similar or even bigger in size then maybe there is a chance for Gold lifetime status as well.

Certainly Diamonds would be 2.5% or less of the membership (one would guess) so numbers matter. Gold must be significantly higher numbers, I'm guessing somewhere between 10 and 25% of the membership so if the other programs are half the size, we likely won't be seeing the Gold level anytime soon...

I do wonder if 'activity' on TA / social media / blogs / FT will be part of the formula (obviously some stays/nights/points criteria but maybe also an 'influencer' factor as well?)

Hyatt and SPG have far fewer hotels than Hilton, and that alone would lead me to expect that HHonors likely has way more program members than Hyatt or a Starwood. Starwood counts award nights for purposes of lifetime elite status, and maybe Hilton might do the same -- not that I expect that with Hilton.

1000 nights for Lifetime Diamond at Hilton wouldn't surprise me, but if it's around 700-800 nights, that would be more akin to what I'm expecting.

I don't expect that I qualify for LT Diamomd but I got the email still. So who knows.

SPG has only two main status levels (there are extra variations on the top level, but those are not available in lifetime form), while Hilton and Mariott each have three. I would thus think Marriott is the chain with lifetime status that's most comparable in number of properties, number of brands, and number of members to Hilton. But whether than means that Hilton will look to Marriott more than SPG or Hyatt for ideas, that I don't know.

I just hope there is no Points requirements a la Marriott. What's awful is that for Marriott I have the required nights for lifetime Gold status so far, but less than 50% of the required points (and yes, I usually credit points when I stay.)

I called and was given the following info.
Member since Nov 1987
Diamond since 1996
I am listed as a legacy member and have already been given Diamond into 2017.
The agent told me don't worry, your account has already been looked at!
Cool

btw - I didn't get the email.

I look forward to seeing more details. I want a program which has set in stone requirements. I have been spending more time at Marriott recently trying to chase lifetime status. Depending on how this is handled I could see myself moving those stays back to Hilton due to this program.

I would like this to be something similar to Marriott's program where you have multiple levels at the very least it makes sense to have both a lifetime Gold and a lifetime Diamond.

If this is something like Hyatt's requirement to spend something like $200,000 to have a chance to get lifetime Diamond status, can't say I'll be in the game for that game. I spread my stays across so many brands and am booked via so many different booking channels that deciding to rack up $200,000 in eligible hotel charges for lifetime elite status just isn't going to happen for me absent extraordinary circumstances.

A straight "night/stay counter + X number of years at a given status level" requirement would make more sense for me and be more attractive to me than having to consciously note that the pursuit of the lifetime status will be $200,000 or more.

I've been a Diamond since...this year, but I was Gold the year before that. But I've been a member since '95.

I called and asked if I was on the LT list. After she stopped laughing, she basically told me not to hold my breath. :o

I would be shocked if they use anything other than lifetime base points to do this. I joined HHonors in 1996 but I wouldn't expect the fact I simply filled in a form before someone else to influence eligibility for lifetime Diamond.

Lifetime base points would seem the most likely way if they're wanting to reward direct spend with them. Overall points (or perhaps even stays if reward ones are included) would more reward those with acces to large credit card bonus/earning rates.

Well, I have about 10 years less of diamond than you, but makes me feel slightly better that I too didn't get the email.

Checked

I checked and have last 14 years as diamond with 957 stays and 1300 nights. Maintained Diamond the last few years but have been spending time with other brands for lifetime status there. Would love to see a program at Hilton ;-)

No email for me either, but I never get them either.

Oregonflyer Dec 20, 2014 2:06 pm

I got my first 3-year diamond status a couple of years ago and just was extended to 2017. Hope I make it, since I have made a point of re-qualifying for Diamond every year even though I had the status without doing so. I also sometimes book and pay for multiple rooms but only get credit for one or two ...

(Erin, put in a good word for me???)

But no email... Then again, I never get email other than the confirmation emails.

Fingers crossed ...

Nowhere near most of you since I've only been traveling for work for 5 years now, but just called and have been Diamond since 2010 with 192 stays and 343 nights. Long way from what the requirements will likely be but much more activity with Hilton than Marriott/SPG so far.

This is seriously exciting news though!

timfountain Dec 20, 2014 3:44 pm

Ok, guys where are you finding your lifetime stays/miles/points? I looked pretty much everywhere on my account and it eludes me!

GSSmith Dec 20, 2014 3:54 pm

I called the Diamond line for mine.
