Lifetime Diamond Status with HHonors is now reality. ^

More recent information posted by Lauren (Hilton Honors Representative) reflects changes in the Honors Lifetime Diamond qualifying criteria:

While the team explores a number of initiatives, one area that we could change quickly was our Lifetime Diamond qualifications. As of January 2017, we will grant Lifetime Diamond to all members who have met the following criteria:

• Members who have maintained Diamond status for at least 10 years (years do not need to be consecutive)

AND

• Have stayed at least 1,000 nights - either paid or reward (as you may know, only paid nights were eligible before)

OR

• Have accumulated 2 million Base Points since joining the Hilton HHonors program (this is a new feature to enable more members to enjoy Lifetime Diamond status; also as a reminder, only Base Points are eligible...Bonus Points earned via promotions, co-brand credit cards, or other means do not count towards status)

So now, there will be essentially two ways you can qualify for Lifetime Diamond:
1. 10 years at Diamond with Hilton HHonors + 1,000 nights (including paid and reward)
2. 10 years at Diamond + 2 million cumulative Base Points

An email notification will go out in February to members who have qualified for Lifetime Diamond as of December 31, 2016. If you want a sneak peek to find out if you will qualify, you can contact the Diamond Desk and the team will be happy to help.

Please reach out with any questions or comments, and I’ll be sure to share them directly with Aaron and team.

Thank you!
Lauren

Details for the first inductees were announced on the 11th Feb. 2015. Erin (HHonors Rep here on FT) posted the announcement shortly before the emails were sent out to members on the same day.

Initially, Lifetime Diamond Status will go to a select group of members who met all of the following criteria as of December 31, 2014:
  • Have maintained Diamond Status for at least 10 years (consecutive or concurrent) and
  • Completed paid stays totaling at least 1,000 nights
Members that met this criteria as of December 31, 2014 will be notified via email and receive their Lifetime Diamond Status in the mail at the physical address on their account at the end of February. Members that meet Lifetime Diamond Status criteria in the middle of the year will receive Lifetime Diamond Status at the beginning of the following year.

Please note that we are in early stages of this benefit, which means that elements of this offering may evolve and may change over time. As I hear of any updates, I will be sure to share those here.

As always, your input is truly valued and we welcome your thoughts and feedback during this launch period. We’re here and listening!

Thanks,
Erin
[B]Initially, Lifetime Diamond Status will go to a select group of members who met all of the following criteria as of December 31, 2014:

All paid stays count — not just the paid stays during the years a member is a Hilton HHonors diamond.

As more information becomes available it will be added here. Should you have any updates please post them in the thread or in this wiki to keep the most pertinent info quickly available to those interested.

For those interested, the development unfolded as follows:

Erin, the HHonors rep on FT posted the following on 16/12/2014: (after some eagle eyed attention by adambrock from an email sent out by Hilton and which he thankfully posted here on FT: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...tus-email.html Kudos to adambrock for noticing and sharing it with the community. ^)

HHonorsRepresentative (Erin) wrote in that thread:

In 2015, HHonors will begin introducing Lifetime Diamond Status! As you may know, we’re always looking for new ways to reward you and we take into consideration your feedback on ways to recognize our most loyal members. Over the past several years, we’ve heard from you that Lifetime Diamond Status is important to you and I’m thrilled to announce that we will be inviting some of our most tenured Diamond members into this status.

I’ll have more details for you in early 2015 and I understand our first Lifetime Diamond members will receive their invitations in the early part of 2015. At this time, this is all the information I have on Lifetime Diamond Status, but I will do my best to keep you all updated as I hear more!

My irritation with Hilton started in 2007. I don't recall the details, but there was a widely discussed promotion here on FT. I reached out to the lady who was the Hilton rep on FT. I reached out to HH directly. I heard nothing back until the day before the promotion ended, letting me know it was too late. I found the response from Hilton insulting, at least the reaction it triggered. The good news is that I started using both Starwood and Hyatt. I have the bulk of my stays with Starwood: I stay 60 to 80 nights there and am headed towards lifetime platinum. I stay at least 25 nights at Hyatt. I used to stay 25 at Hilton, but now stay at least 30 to maintain Diamond. I have maintained Diamond each year since I "left"!

I know the Hilton rep was trying to be helpful and didn't know the impact of what she was writing, but it caused about 10 years of loyalty to evaporate in an instant.

Ok, now I am incredibly pissed off. I just got a response to that inquiry I made on Feb 12 and have waited patiently for the number of lifetime nights as well as number of years Gold and Diamond. I not only got a form letter 10 days later BUT its absolutely not what I am asking. I KNOW I don't qualify for Lifetime Diamond at this point.

Hello Miesque,

This e-mail is with respect to your request to receive the “Lifetime Diamond” status in the Hilton HHonors Program. Thank you for the opportunity to allow me to assist you with your request for “Lifetime Diamond” status.

To be considered for “Lifetime Diamond” status, members must have accumulated at least ten years of Diamond status over the course of their membership in the Hilton HHonors program, and must have completed 1,000 or more paid nights at properties within the Hilton Portfolio of Brands. The population of Diamond Members who are eligible for Lifetime Diamond status is very small, in part because we are committed to providing the best benefits and experiences we can offer to every single Diamond member, regardless of Lifetime status.

While we are unable to extend to you the “Lifetime Diamond” status at this time based on your stay history with us we do want you to know that we value your loyalty and encourage you to keep aiming for Lifetime Diamond status. We thank you again for your loyalty and understanding. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback that I would be happy to pass along to my team.

Sincerely,

Joe F.

That's the exact same response a number of us have received. I called again and told them again what I was looking for. My last call was Thursday last week. Hope i get the correct response this time.

So I finally got a response from Hilton on my nights. Somehow the response turned into me requesting Lifetime status, listed the requirements, and stated that they could not give it to me.

At least they included my # of nights and years as a diamond in the response. I'm good on nights, but have 8.5 years, not sure if they will round up or if I have 1.5 years left.

Something doesn't sound right. 8.5 years.

You have to qualify 10 times as a diamond in your lifetime, that makes 10 years of qualifying as diamond, no halves. No rounding.

Did they give you paid nights? Or your total nights? I got one email with my total nights, and had to ask for my total paid nights again, turns out that I had over 200 nights that weren't paid for. Makes a big difference when it's 1000 paid nights.

I think it was paid nights, but most of my nights are paid except for the few a year I use for points, so I'm not worried about the nights.

The years was weird, but I think I joined in June or July and I don't think I qualified until the next year around June, so yeah that should be 9 years as a diamond, but I don't know if they are counting the year you qualify or just the next year.

Have another look at the threads, didn't seem too bad for golds who were part of the promotion, but I agree it would have been nice if everyone got a promotion of some kind- most diamonds didn't get something, read upthread!

Define "most". No way to know how many (apparently flawed) diamonds didn't get anything, but it should have been "all", not "most" or even "some". If they can't reward all diamonds, then they should formally distinguish between levels of diamond. As it is, people's data on here sounds quite random rather than "better diamond" across the board.

This diamond didn't get a single thing, unless you count a credit card offer that gets you Silver status.

Hilton has just set me free - I'm now a free agent.
I was going to stick it out as I was originally told I had 912 nights total. I have now been told I only have 838 paid nights. I think it's great that I've used 74 free nights, always at high end properties overseas.
I want to retire in 4 years, I'm not going to try to stay 162 nights over that time frame for a benefit that means little these days.

Had enough for selective treatment

I got upset about how they treated diamonds differently for promotion target. I just signed up for SPG AMEX, and already have 4 SPGF stays after having 11 Hilton stays in 2015.

If Hilton is reading this post, take that from 3 year diamond who is not interested in "pursuing" LTD. I may stay at Hilton is not other hotels are available but won't have my loyalty.

If I didn't split it between Hilton and Marriott that would be an average year for me. But I like having options so I get Platinum in Marriott on nights and Diamond with Hilton on nights. If it weren't for the fact that I go lots of places where Hiltons just aren't convenient I would do all 160+ nights a year with Hilton to get all the points which I use for free fantastic vacations for me and my wife.

And I want the lifetime status for when I retire, I could care less about having it (unless I know I won't qualify) while working and earning the same status every year. Though while working it does take the pressure off of having to qualify.

Still waiting for my email with my totals.
