Hilton Surpass & Diamond after $40,000

Does anyone know for sure if you have to spend $40,000 in any continuous 12 months (like June 2013-May 2014) or $40k from January 1 to December 31 of a year to achieve Hhonors diamond status using the Hilton Surpass Amex?

I've poked around the forum and the Hilton and Amex pages and don't seem to be able to find this information.

Thanks!

Calendar year

Okay, so that means the one-year period that begins on January 1 and ends on December 31.

Thanks for the answers.

Is that based on the billing date (statement closing date) or when they receive payment? My December statement will close on or about the 15th but won't be due and payable until January, '14. I will get to $40k in that statement. Do I need to pay the bill in '13 or can I wait until the due date?

It's based on when the purchases occur, not when you pay them. So spend $40K Jan. 1 - Dec. 31 and you're golden.

Thanks - I just realized this is the Surpass card thread and I have the Citi Reserve Visa. And I already am golden just for having that card - I want to keep Diamond. :D

Amex Surpass gives you a running tally at the end of the monthly statement in terms of where your YTD spending sits. ^

Unfortunately the Citibank Reserve Visa does not. :td:

:D

And I am a CPA by training- the shoemaker's children...

I did have an instance this year on the Visa where I had a high volume of returns one month, resulting in a negative balance. Rather than issuing me negative HH points that month it seems the debit balance was carried forward until I had worked it off in subsequent months, and then the HH points started posting again.

It would be useful to know how that scenario would play out in terms of the qualifying spend if it lapped a year end.

I received a notice today that my Surpass card = Gold as a long as I have the card.

A question I've been wondering about...If you hit 40,000 miles and qualify in a calendar year, does the status continue through the following year in the way it would for stays? It seems to read that way, but isn't clear. May need it this year to hold onto status.

I have the no fee AMEX HHonor and spent over $20K by March. The Gold status earned would last thru Mar 2015.

Unless the status earned this late in the year would carry thru March 2016, I would think earning the status in the 1st quarter of the year is more beneficial than earning it in the last quarter of the year.

+1 including SO card too

To restate the question, for instance, if you qualified in 2013 calendar year for *Diamond* via the 40k spend, does the status last until early 2015 as it would if you earned it on stays, or just for the 2013 plan year?
