How and when? All three rooms upgraded to bay view

Not the greatest upgrade, but nice when I had a two queens room and also the view was spectacular.

I assume this is a positive statement and what you wanted since your original reservation was for a room with two beds.

not really. I really like rooms with a single king. But sometimes, I am forced into doubles when the rates are lower. I figure that a single king bed is an upgrade and more desirable.

However, when one books a double then the property must assume two beds are needed.

I've seen too many posts on FT complaining of an "upgrade" to a King room when the original booking was for two beds and the customer needed two beds. That's why I asked the question.

Which property? Conrad by Hilton Hong Kong
Room-type booked Standard
Paid or Award? Award (Barclays free night)

How and When (i.e., in advance, when checking-in at the hotel, etc.)? on check in, upgraded to the top floor with exec lounge access.

Which property? London Hilton On Park Lane
Room-type booked Standard
Paid or Award? Award (1x points and cash, 1x Barclays free night)
Upgrade - yes or no? yes
How and When (i.e., in advance, when checking-in at the hotel, etc.)? an interesting one. The points & cash was in my name, upgraded to Park Lane suite in advance. The free night was in my OHs name, which didn't show an upgrade (we're both HH Gold). On arrival, the rooms were combined so we didn't have to check out, but we were given a standard king room. Fine, but I thought I'd question it, as I had an email confirming the ug of my room. Half hour later, an call from the front desk apologising and both nights were upgraded to the Clarence suite with exec lounge access. Very happy with that!

Complete luck I think, potentially coupled with high-ish occupancy (Easter weekend)? I was chuffed either way, to say the least! Though not overly thrilled with the exec lounge in the Park Lane, spent most of the time in there waiting for cutlery!
