How Will You Burn Your Points?

With all the upcoming changes in HH, how will you be burning your points?

This morning, I booked next year's winter vacation. It will be two weeks at the Hilton in Barbados. Cost was 525K points. Under the new program it would have been 840K (for 15 nights).

If you are not burning points, why?

I'll be using my points normally. The changes in points don't materially bother me, because most of my points come from spending on the free AMEX and Citi HHonors cards.

I actually use my points at nice, but modest HHonors hotels (Hampton, Homewood, and Doubletree). And I'm relatively happy with the program.

Booked a OW Explorer Award for Nov/Dec 2013.
Was thinking of doing the hilton bookings in the summer but had to rush.

Already burned 290K (8 nights) on Conrad Rangali Island for Dec 2013.
Transferred 135K (270 HH) points from Hawaiian.

Still need to book 4 nights at Conrad HK (145K), 4 nights at Conrad Bali (125K)
4 nights at Conrad Singapore (145K), 3 nights at Conrad Istanbul (150K)and 3 nights at Hilton London (150K)

Mrs Iqbal and I just churned Hawaiian Airlines Card (BoH/BoA) yesterday. Hopefully will get the cards in time to transfer another 140K Hawaiian Miles (280K HH) to finish up my bookings before the deadline.

I have 382K to burn. Originally was thinking about going back to the Conrad Maldives but it's just so far (takes about 24 hours to get to using points) and not sure if I have the vacation time remaining.

A trip to Hilton Barbados will be a bit lighter on the wallet in comparison =). So I'm looking into going there instead.

Thankfully I'm going to HK and Singapore next week. I didn't originally anticipate using HHonors points for this trip, with all nights being either paid stays or using Marriott points. I've now switched them to redemptions at the Conrad HK and Singapore.

I wonder if the Conrad properties in general are going to see an unusually high volume of redemptions over the next few weeks?

I've been slowly burning since June last year. Lucky me.

Booked AXON7 in June 2012 for Hilton Suites Ocean City, MD for the 4th of July 2013. Booked for 145,000 points. New points would be 320,000. An increase of 175,000 (though I suppose you'd at least get 5 nights).

Booked 2 nights at 100,000 points for Conrad Tokyo in late December and an AXON7 for Conrad Tokyo for 145,000. I needed 6 nights and 245,000 points for 6 nights isn't bad at all, the one booking is from my account, the other is from my husband's. That would be 475,000 points for all six nights after March, including a free 5th night! An increase of 230,000!

I have hardly any points left and my husband has another 50K to burn. I cannot believe stuff I have booked would be 405,000 more points after March 28th. It's insane!

We're done with HHonors.

I made a mistake and got the Hyatt 2 free nights in 1 year card. Staying in Tokyo for 4 nights and converted 2 of the nights from Hyatt points to Conrad Tokyo but wasted 100K points! For just 50k more would have 4 nights at Conrad . But I don't think there is any better value for hyatt than the Park Hyatt Tokyo within the timeframe i am looking at

I still have a pending 70k points from BOA and BOH that will post end of this month. How long does it typically take for transfer from HA to HH? Any way to expedite it to post within 27th March?

One to three weeks seems to be the norm -- if they post at all.

Have 16k points left, will just add those to a 3 night 120k reservation I have already and make it 4 nights 136k, that is if VIP is still available at this moment (any idea?)

How Will You Burn Your Points?

Every way I can; plan ahead, book now. Hilton Molino Stucky, etc. Some properties will get hurt - I have changed a couple of paid stays to award stays as a result of the devaluation.
