Gold and Diamond members receive a $13 per person room charge credit. Solo travellers asking nicely can receive a $26 credit by having the room listed as double occupancy. (or just book for two)

Credit can be used at most on-property venues except Chill'm. Gratuities cannot be applied against this credit. You are not obliged to apply this credit against breakfast.

Breakfast buffet costs $26. A take-away breakfast is available at the food court for $13.

Resorts fees are NOT added to award stays using all points.

They might have conventions, or you've picked a fight weekend. I picked a random-ish weeknight in December:

LAS Homewood Suites: $110 on MVP rate
Tropicana: $40 (+$35 resort fee) on MVP rate
HGVC on Paradise: $123 (+$25 resort fee)

So it doesn't seem to me that the Trop is universally more expensive than HGVCs. I pulled up more random dates from November and the Trop is running anywhere from $308 to $61 (pre-resort fee). The bottom line is it's a Strip hotel, even if it is a lower-end one, so while you can get it on a good rate, and the F/B credit and stay credit can make it an OK option for Hilton loyalists if you don't mind that this is not the Waldorf Astoria, room rates at the lower tier properties can also spike badly if a convention or a popular weekend to visit is sucking up a lot of empty rooms.

If you want to exit the Trop, the front tower is the way to go. The elevator is literally right next to the front door. I've stayed in both towers, everything from the two-story supersuites and big parlor suites to a crappy 2 double that had a tub that leaked all night. Rooms just vary.

If I got a unsat room, I suppose I'd go down and see what luck I might have getting it changed. But geographically, I'd push for the front (Paradise) tower.

Bungalows: I haven't stayed in but know where they are. They *are* easy to access from the back of the parking area, just a short hallway that's sort of on its own. One end pops out at the breakfast buffet, the other end pops out to the back of the parking garage on the Strip. Probably the easiest to bring a ton of bags into, etc. if you're luggage heavy. Go check in, then run back to car to drag your bags and gear in the back way.

The parking situation seems to vary - perhaps Diamond guests can park in the front little lot, maybe it's just player's club... no one seems to check, but whatever.

I stayed in a Bungalow, diamond at the time. I enjoyed it. It had a patio you can go sit out on. It was easy to get out of the hotel and not go through the casino, gas station within a short walking distance. If it were warmer when I was there, it would have been perfect. Its only 3 or so floors I think and easily accessible from the casino.

I don't spend enough time in a hotel room to care about views, as I usually leave by 8am and don't return until 9pm. As much as I used to like high floors, I've started to prefer 3rd or 4th floors recently. Tired of waiting on elevators, so much so that I will take the stairs now.

Goalie; I don't think you are supposed to smoke on the balconies of the Bungalow rooms, but I did each and every visit. I recently quit smoking so a non issue moving forward.
I stayed early this year, there was an ashtray on the table on the balcony when I stayed in the Bungalow.

Congrats on quitting, its going on 4 years for me.

Hi all,

Any idea if I can use the HH line (I am a member) for check-in even if I booked directly with the hotel at troplv. Its own website now has a promotion with lower rate and 2 free buffet.

Are you referring to the old area out back as the "bungalows"? Back in the 80's these rooms were really disgusting. They seemed to assign those when the hotel was really full. They were worse than a broken down Motel 6 room... A travel agent booked us a room at the Tropicana and we were assigned one of these crap rooms. When we saw it, I immediately phoned the front desk and asked to be reassigned another room. They asked what room I was in...and the response when I told her was "I know why you would want to move.." She said they had no other rooms to move me to; they were booked full. So I told her that we were leaving. I got back on the room phone & got a room at a Best Western downtown. It was 1000% nicer than the "bungalow" room we had at Tropicana. My travel agent complained to Tropicana after we got home & the hotel offered us a free 2-night stay in a Tower room. I took them up on it and it was MUCH MUCH nicer than the crappy room we had previously.

Doubletree Tropicana Las Vegas

I booked a reward stay here 12/4-12/6 22K per night. The reservation doesn’t state if the stupid “resort fee” is included and assume it doesn’t ?

Is this fee waived for diamonds?

Thanks

There are no resort fees, stupid or otherwise, on full point stays.

I just called the Trop and the reservations person wasn't sure and referred me to HHonors.

The HHonors rep verified that there are no resort fees on "full points stays" at the Tropicana as per what she found in her policies database.

Question for anyone that's stayed recently:

Can the Robert Irvine Public House be billed to the room? Or is it a separate dining "complex"?

The DT's Tropicana website is woefully un-updated, as it today says "Check back with us for more details surrounding the new restaurant concept (PDF) from celebrity chef Robert Irvine, debuting in 2017."

I'm trying to use the "Spend $225 at DT and get a $45 AMEX statement credit" offer, but the room rate alone isn't enough. I'm not sure if the resort fee counts as a "room rate and room charges". Been looking for an excuse to try the new restaurant anyway. I'm Diamond, so I *think* I won't be billed for breakfast.

Just addressing this part, the last couple of times I stayed I was given a $12/day F&B folio credit for use at certain specific restaurants/coffee shops/etc on the property. I think I recall that the list wasn't exhaustive - didn't include every restaurant. I skipped it both times because I was in a hurry, but just be aware that there is no direct "free breakfast for Diamonds". I have read in this thread that if you tell them at check in that there are two guests staying in the room you will get the credit x2, but I haven't tried it myself.

What about the Tropicana Las vehas benefit?

Since the rate was under the $40, I can't refuse to book a room like this.

But I've read about some post said the breakfast was awful, is that truly unacceptable?

You will receive a daily food & beverage credit. It is essentially good for 50% off of the breakfast buffet price, per person, for up to two adults. You can use that credit at any restaurant on the property (except Starbucks, I think), and for any meal.

The rub I have seen with the Tropicana is that it is a DT property, but they don't extend full tier benefits for Gold & Diamond, particularly as it relates to breakfast.

But, you're right about the price - during the down times, the Tropicana can be an absolute steal.
