Gold and Diamond members receive a $13 per person room charge credit. Solo travellers asking nicely can receive a $26 credit by having the room listed as double occupancy. (or just book for two)

Credit can be used at most on-property venues except Chill'm. Gratuities cannot be applied against this credit. You are not obliged to apply this credit against breakfast.

Breakfast buffet costs $26. A take-away breakfast is available at the food court for $13.

Resorts fees are NOT added to award stays using all points.

couldnt agree with you more. HH made a FOMO YOLO deal with the trop. totally trashed the DT name. i cant tell you how many problems I have had with the Trop pretending to be a HH DT. DO NOT COME HERE FOR ANYTHING HH PROMO RELATED. it wont work because it still operates as an indp Trop casino. I have complained many times and Diamond agents tell me the Trop is a real HH DT. not its not. stupid BS.

not sure what youre talking about. the DT franchise agreement was very recent back in 2013. before that, HH was never there for over a decade. not sure about 1990s, but the Tropicana is still the Tropicana. A total Motel 6 dump yard. HH is fukn stupid to partner with this piece of junk. The Trop is still operating as a casino for itself. It doesnt give a rats dong about HH. hence the BS treatment for diamonds. The trop has never been and never will be a true DT. its just a licensing deal AKA fake HH DT.

PS. since there is so much talk about breakfast, just know that this is a fake HH DT property. aka casino rules. either u sit nicely with a Food credit of $13 per night per person, or u tell the front desk agent FU and escalate to a manager for a full comped breakfast. its YMMV and depends how bad you want to fight for it. i no longer go here after Q1 promo didnt work. fuk this property.

This property has nothing to do with the Las Vegas Hilton. The former Las Vegas Hilton is located next to the convention center. It started out as the International Hotel & Casino in 1969, became the Las Vegas Hilton in 1971, and operated as such until 2012, when it left the Hilton chain. It was briefly named the LVH, and then was sold to Westgate in 2014, which is the current owner.

The Tropicana opened in 1957, and was never part of the Hilton family until 2012, when the agreement with Doubletree was announced. During it's life, it's been run by Ramada, Aztar and Columbia Sussex (who really let it go downhill) - among others. Penn Gaming, the current owner, bought the property in 2015.

Is this joint what they refer to as an "affiliate property" rather than a regular one like almost all other Doubletrees?

I don't see it referred to as an affiliate anywhere... I see, "A Double Tree by Hilton."

Wow!

Staying here for three nights and denied any sort of diamond upgrade. Was told I could purchase an upgrade though from the staff in the lounge when I went to change rooms to a non runway view away from the ice machine.

Moving back to SPG is looking better and better!

The Trop's treatment of HH elites is pitiful. Upgrades are near nonexistent (I've only received an upgrade to a corner room once), the breakfast benefit covers half the cost of the breakfast buffet, and they charge a resort fee for many things that we should get gratis anyway. Out of habit and circumstance, I'm a Hilton loyalist, but staying here always tempts me to throw more dollars to SPG/Marriott and Hyatt.

Oh, but don't forget about the cookies! <sarcasm>

I stayed there a couple months after they became a DT and the treatment of diamonds was great. There used to be a rep from the Trop that would post on this thread and answer private messages but after she left the treatment of diamonds really went downhill.

When I stayed there I was preupgraded to a nice mini suite, was the full breakfast buffet, diamonds could use the VIP casino player line for breakfast and they waived the resort fee for diamonds. They also gave me mid-level casino loyalty access for being a diamond.

It's too bad the nice treatment didn't last long.

Management quickly realized that most Diamonds were not gamblers, left nothing in the casino, restaurants.

You have multiple Hilton options on or close to the Strip (the Hilton Vacations properties @ Flamingo, the North Strip, close to the former LV Hilton, plus Elara, HS/HGI City Center, Hampton Inn Tropicana) or a bit farther away (Homewood Suites, HGI, Tru and Hampton Inn near the airport).

I don't see why a Hilton loyalist would need to stay at the Tropicana as their LV choice if it was such a terrible experience to do so. Unless it was super cheap compared to the other options (which I note is the case sometimes during low season, as someone who'll consider Hilton as a Gold, and who in fact did just that to pick up a stay credit for a last night in Vegas), in which case, you get what you pay for. It's a low end Strip property, well below Elara in quality and attached amenities.

I suspect that's the case. I can't say that the property is that attractive in terms of what's on offer (seems similar to Excalibur/Luxor across the street as lower end Strip casino). Robert Irvine Public House looks pretty nice, but the prices are fairly steep.

I stayed here as well early on in their DoubleTree lifetime. I believe the breakfast was included, and I did receive some sort of an upgrade. They were definitely equating elites with high rollers at the time.

Because of a single experience in what is basically a non-Hilton hotel?

The biggest issue here is that many Hilton guests aren't gamblers. And most gamblers aren't Hilton loyalists. Hilton members simply see that there's a 'Doubletree by Hilton' on the Strip, without doing any research as to what it really is. Anyone familiar with Vegas knows this hotel as the Tropicana Hotel & Casino, which it's always been.

If you book it thru the Tropicana website; you won't be overly disappointed because you're expecting Vegas-type amenities. If you book it as a Hilton thru the Hilton website, you're almost guaranteed to be disappointed, because it's not a Doubletree in any way other than thru affiliation.

As someone said a few posts ago - Hilton Diamond members aren't gambling in the casino. Casinos will look after those gambling. They'll take into account people spending money on the property. If you're biggest thing is complaining about Diamond room upgrades and a free cookie, you're going to be awfully disappointed in this property.

That is not always true. When I fly to LAS it is for at least a week (a shorter stay would not be worthwhile considering that I have to sit in airplanes for 18 hours). I used to stay at Total Rewards hotels and reached mid-level status with them.

I contacted the Trop, told them I was HHonors Diamond, and they agreed to match my Total Rewards status and give me 4 comped nights. I spent 4 nights that time at Planet Hollywood (mostly comped) and four more at the Trop. I was told by the Senior Executive Host that I worked with that my gambling would be reviewed after I left and future comps would be dependent on that.

As it turned out, although I don't consider myself to be a "whale" by any stretch of the imagination, on my following trips I was comped for all 8 nights, not charged for any meals, was upgraded to a suite (one time only) and had large baskets of goodies waiting for me in the room.

All this ended, however, when Penn National took over. I was restricted to 4 comped nights, had to pay resort fees no matter how much I gambled, and no meals would be comped.

I didn't know Penn had any vegas casinos. They own a couple around me and I hate the company.

If you have diamond with RR, I would just stay at a Harrah's property. They take good care of their diamonds and waive the resort fee.

Harrah's status is getting to be very easy to obtain as well, almost like Hilton status. With their credit card and $3k a year in spend you get Platinum status and with $10K in spend you get a VIP pass that basically gives you all diamond benefits except for diamond lounge access and the bonus points. Harrah's and Wyndham are also status matching each other now.

Based on the fact that you can earn suite upgrade certs with SPG to use when traveling with the family. Being denied any sort of diamond upgrade and then offered a paid one is not unique to the Tropicana. It also seems to be the norm at WA and Curio properties as well. This is the 3rd time I have seen it in the last few months.

I have gotten 2 suite upgrades as a diamond in the past year, and both times I was traveling solo, so pretty useless. I often get "We upgraded you to a club room" from the front desk when that's what I paid for due to all others being sold out. Not exactly stellar customer service there.

I will requal for gold this week (based on points), but seriously considering SPG as diamond just does not seem worth it anymore.

And no, I did not gamble at the Tropicana - mostly due to the room situation. I decided to spend my $ elsewhere.

I don't think SPG has nay properties in the strip area but if they did and I had top tier it would be my choice just due to the revolving check in policy for their very top tier. When I land at Vegas it's also later at night and a lot of times I take redeyes home so the 24 hour revolving check in would be a perfect benefit for me on those trips, especially seeing how stingy Hilton is with late check outs
