Does anyone have any experience with this location? I'm considering it for an upcoming trip.
I'm seeing some pretty negative reviews on the property over at tripadvisor.com
It was apparently reflagged to Double Tree from Radisson some time in late 2010 / early 2011 and renovated in early 2012 ...
Thanks for your help.

I've stayed there a few times. The location is bad (the casino is across the street as is a shopping mall... the French Quarter is a short walk (several blocks). The hotel was refurbished recently. It's a clean hotel in a decent location. Nothing really wrong with it, however it isn't opulent like a lot of other hotels in New Orleans. If you want luxury check out the Roosevelt.
I think I paid around $90-$100 per night at the Double Tree (off peak times). The Roosevelt has a great Gov rate if you qualify, if not make sure to take advantage of the MVP rates (knocks 20% off the BAR rate).

If saying several nights, might consider the Hilton on St. Charles Avenue. It is similarly priced, better location, and with any kind of upgrade you can be in a very nice oversized room.
The HGI French Quarter also is a good location, though it is pretty much your standard HGI.

It looks like there are at least two reviews in this thread:

I stayed at this DoubleTree hotel about 5 weeks ago. It was disappointing. The room was large and sparse. Only a tiny window. Valet parking took almost 30 minutes the first morning to get my car. The breakfast restaurant was not open on time. Service was not good. I checked out and moved over to the Airport Hilton. This Hilton is not near anything but the airport. But the rooms were nicer and I was able to self park. That saved about 24 dollars a day.

ETA: This is a review about the airport DT not the French Quarter one.
I can't recall if I reviewed this place in the New Orleans master thread ... but what a dump. They used to be a Radisson and I'm guessing it was dumped by the brand (Radisson lets places get really bad before they are dumped).
The room was moist (beyond acceptable Southern moist -- I'm a Southerner). It was musty and the bathroom was mildew covered. I'm not normally I sickly person but at 3AM I woke up unable to breathe through my nose.
The AC unit sounded like it had a whole in it as I could hear the street noise like I was sleeping on a park bench. I seem to recall we were on the 4th floor.
The rooms weren't newly done in spite of the fact the the lobby was pristine. False advertisement if you ask me. I was so very glad to move hotels the next morning (we had been on a midnight flight and so chose to sleep the first night near the airport rather than downtown).
Nothing could compel me to return to that hotel and it's been almost two years since I stayed there.

Yea, that's what I've read elsewhere. Apparently the place was remodeled to the tune of 4 million earlier this year. But I'm not taking any chances. I need my sleep as I'll most likely be working nights and being next to the airport is bad enough. I would choose another property in the area but location and traffic in relation to my work site dictate the airport.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the DT. And welcome to FT!
Yea, a co-worker of mine also recommended the Airport Hilton.

Wow, my experience is quite different. I've stayed there 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years and never had any problems. Possibly different if you're there for business instead of pleasure, but I love the location. Close enough to the FQ to walk but not so close as to be loud. Next door to the casino. And there's a Pinkberry downstairs. The rooms aren't anything to write home about but I've never had anything to complain about either, and the staff has always been friendly.

There are several in here who have posted about the DT near the French Quarter which has been there for years. But the OP is talking about the "new" DT. The one which was a Radisson in 2010. There are two DTs in New Orleans. The French Quarter one and the pit near the airport.
