DISCUSSION for Hilton Honors Hotels in China {CHN}
 

Interested in taking my 15 yr old to China or the far east next spring; have an unused glon reward...suggestions would be welcome...

The Shanghai Hilton is tops in my book. The Executive Lounge staff oin the 37th floor are all wonderful and very accomodating

This is Asia we are talking about and SHA specifically. While the Hilton was probably great ten years ago, it is now one of the worst chains you can stay in there. Try the Hyatt, the Shangri La, or many others, don't do the Hilton, treat yourself.

The question is about the unused GLON award, so it has to be at a Hilton in Asia.

In order of my preference:
- Conrad Hong Kong
- Conrad Bangkok
- Conrad Singapore

how about japan? i'd recommend osaka as it is the historical and cultural center of japan for at least the last 300yr. in addition, there r lots of day trips to take which can easily keep u occupied for 6 nights. i dont think hkg, bkk or sin r in the same league from this angle.

i concur that hiltons in china r mostly older hotels. for instance, if i were in beijing i'd stay at the hyatt without a 2nd thought; it is new, very conveniently located and at the center of everything compare to the hilton which is on the 3rd ring road (nothing ard it) and looks half a decade old.

Beijing Hilton comments:

1) It is kind of far out - taxi required
Yet, being on 3rd Ring Road is useful if you will be coming or going during "rush hour" to the airport and don't want to chance getting stuck in the downtown traffic
2) The staff is VERY nice, especially Pauline the chief concierge.
3) The mattress is so hard - like sleeping on a box spring. Ask for a second comforter to pad the mattress. (ouch!)
4) Club OK, nothing fancy, compared to the awesome Grand Hyatt (my new favorite Beijing hotel steps from the Forbidden City - the pool is to die for)

I just stayed almost a week Hilton Shanghai and was not impressed. The Exec Lounge was small, food selection small & just not a great impression. HOWEVER, the week before I spent in the Conrad Hong Kong & it is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. In terms of cultural, Hong Kong would be interesting with trips to Macau & Shenzhen provinces, in addition to Hong Kong.

That is good news. Hilton will no longer be the only choice in Beijing. Hilton need more properties in China, especially Shanghai where threee *W hotels are present and the Hilton is long overdue for renovations.

HGI is forthcoming in China
 

Hilton Hotels Corp. is teaming up with RREEF, the property investment arm of Deutsche Bank, and private equity firm H&Q Asia Pacific, to develop more than 20 Hilton Garden Inn-branded hotels in China, with an emphasis on business travelers. The companies have signed a letter of understanding to acquire, develop and convert sites to create about 5,000 new rooms.

You do realize Hilton is dealing with fire given the chinese take any short cuts they can, don't you?

Hiltons in China is poorer in quality and service than elsewhere. That is also why if you look at the awards the Hiltons in China is lower than the Hiltons elsewhere.

I've found the hilton's in china (shanghai and beijing) to be equivalent to any other Asia Hilton branded property (aka not including Conrad)

Any idea if this has any relationship (such as rebranding) to the Conrad and Scandic hotels announced for Beijing over a year ago:
