I'd love to know what to expect as well. I'll be there in about two weeks and at christmas time.

Someone who stayed there on a priceline.com bid posted this:

It looks nice and is about 12 years old. A brand new Hilton Garden Inn is about 10 minutes away and right next (walking distance) to a floating casino

Klineact,

Thanks http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Stayed there Thurs nite because of a 6AM flight. Older property. Little run down. Great restarant (for a hotel)

Is this place worth 20K HHonor points?

How convenient is the place from the French Quarter... I know it's approx. 14 miles but if I rent a car, is it still worth it. I'm only staying for 1 night...

Tried to book something in mid-November, but everything seems to be gone (most of the other hotels, too).

I'm doing a semi-mileage run... (1 day to see the city) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The Hilton by the Airport is not the most convenient hotel to the FQ. You may want to save your points and book something closer into the city. If you strictly looking for a place to stay before catching a flight then it is perfectly adequate. If you going to experience N.O. you would be better off cashing in some points to stay at the Hampton Inn by the Convention Center. It is a new property that will probably suit your needs especially if it is just for one night. I would trade location (Hampton) for "luxury" (Hilton)... and the airport Hilton is not very luxurious. Alot of weekends you can get rooms for $79 a night at the Hampton and be right in the action. Email if you have specific questions about location.

prncess674,

Is the Hamption Inn New Orleans a good bid? It looks not too far from the action (2.5 miles from FQ). However, the rates seems pretty high for a Hamption Inn ($149)...

What's going on the the weekend of Nov 10? everywhere seems booked solid!!!

FFSaver,

http://www.neworleanscvb.com/new_sit...oncalendar.cfm

The American Academy of Opthomology will be converging on New Orleans that weekend.

Expected Attendance: 27,000

These are big spenders, expect hotels, and restaurants to be booked solid. Don't count on a flight upgrade with this many "rich folk" coming into town.

If you are flying on WN or CO you should be warned that the security checkpoint in MSY is just about at grid lock now. Arrive early for departure

wow, 27K people at a conference?!?!?!? I would probably not have gone had I known about this... oh well...

prncess674, thanks for the info.

I got a room at the Hampton Inn (st-charles) 2.5 miles from FQ. Everything else was completely booked. Any comments on this property?

Try turbotrip.com for rates. I'm stuck there too that w/e. Have the Lafayette at $149 for the 1st, 99 for the 2nd, with the Hyatt at 178/nt as a backup.

Hilton @ MSY (New Orleans) airport?

Anyone have experience at the New Orleans airport Hilton? (I'm HHonors Gold.)

In New Orleans next week, and the whole city appears to be sold out, such that I'm ending up at the airport hotel. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif What's the driving commute into town like?

It's been a while but I think it is about a 1/2 hour drive.

Property is OK, nothing special. Restarunt was very good.
