Just want to be clear before making my changes. I'm Diamond, so I expect a breakfast when I stay. The Hilton and Doubletree options say: Upgrade to Executive Floor (if available), OR Executive Floor Lounge access (if the hotel has a Lounge), OR complimentary continental breakfast for the member and one guest each day of the stay. If the rate already includes breakfast, a special food and beverage amenity will be presented.

If I choose the 1,000 HHonors points instead, will I still get breakfast for myself as I have always received as a Diamond? Is the real benefit breakfast for a companion OR (love the or in caps) the "possibility" of an upgrade? I travel by myself, so the upgrade is not that useful. Breakfast, though, usually is.

Thanks

I gave up on the Local internet. I went to my cell phone company and am happy with getting it from them. Works in all the airports and hotels.

Are you asking about the My Way program at Embassy Suites or another Hilton brand? This thread is really only concerning Embassy Suites, where all guests, regardless of Hilton HHonors level (really regardless of whether they are HHonors members or not) get breakfast free. Choosing the bonus points for Embassy is not giving up an upgrade or breakfast or lounge access. It's the choice of giving up bottled water and snacks in exchange for either bonus points or free Internet access. It does not affect your My Way choice at other Hilton brands where perks like free breakfast, room upgrades, and lounge access might only be a perk for gold and diamond members. The My Way program allows you to select your preference for each Hilton brand individually, and the choices made for one brand do not affect the others.

In my experience I go for the bonus points with brands like Hampton, Homewood, and Embassy where there really is no upgrade benefit and breakfast is always included anyway. And what I generally find is I still get the snack anyway, plus the bonus points. Apparently the hotels aren't really looking at the My Way preferences that closely, or don't really understand the program. But I'm not complaining! At least the bonus points are consistent (water and snacks aren't always, especially at some small town Hamptons), and the points are of greater value to me than a bottle of water and package of cookies or crackers I could get out the vending machine anyway.

I dunno. HHonors points are (in my estimation at least) worth roughly .7 cent each ($0.07). So the 500 point Gold amenity = $3.50. But the "pick three" from the following list could, possibly, be worth more, especially at ripoff vending machine prices! (Of course, I realize this list is for Embassy Suites. At other hotel brands, different story. @:-) )

Pick Three
Sweet Tooth (2 candy bars)
Two Bottles of Water
Two Regular Colas
Two Diet Colas
Two Regular Lemon-Lime Sodas
Two Pieces Fruit
Salty Snack (popcorn, pretzels, etc)
EDIT: Actually, it's Pick Two for Golds. Pick Three is only for Diamonds.

At Hamptons and Homewood, for Golds the VIP choice is between water and snack/cookies or 250 points.

And in spite of my comments above, I went in and selected the points rather than the snacks at Embassy, Hampton, and Homewood.

Just to clarify what the choices are for all the various chains, here is the complete Gold VIP list (Diamonds generally get higher benefit levels):

The ES-Dulles and ES-SFO did not know about the change. I got the standard Milano Cookies and water at both properties as a Diamond with stays in the last week.

Note the phrase "at participating hotels." But when you click on that link, instead of bringing up a list of participating hotels, it brings up a page that says
The VIP Hotel Benefits Program

Now Available at More Than 2,200 Hilton Family Hotels!
So I guess they're ALL supposed to be participating now.

That is one of my gripes with it. Alos was wondering if I choose points for everything will I still get my upgrades? Are they trying to do these other things, beacuse of complaints about lack of upgrades?

Yeah, but I can expense that ripoff $2.25 bottle of water from the vending machine. And I realize the monetary value of the extra points is not much, but every little bit counts in my opinion, especially since I typically use my HHonors points for big splurges -- multi-night stays at very high end properties in expensive destinations. And those extra points do add up. With the number of paid stays I've had this year the extra MyWay points total up to about 10,000 points a year. That is worth something.

I actually agree with you (even though my travel is all leisure, no reimbursement) and as I said in my long post above (#21), I went in and chose points over water/snacks for those chains that offered that particular choice. (Also, Golds get only a "pick two" at Embassy Suites rather than "pick three," so that could tip the balance more towards the points.)

I still prefer breakfast etc. rather than points, though, for those chains that offer that. But I can see how someone on an expense account might choose differently!

follow-up

So just to follow up, I requested the free Internet at the DC Embassy Suites, but was told it wasn't in effect yet. I e-mailed the Diamond Desk and got this response:

Hello Mr. Uniter:

This program went in to effect as of December 6, 2005. I have alerted Guest Assistance so they can contact the hotel with this information. In the
meantime, I have added the 1000 points to your HHonors account. I do apologize for the confusion and appreciate your patience as we get this straightened out.

Best regards,

So, once again, the Diamond Desk comes through. By the way, how cool would it be to be a "Diamond Special Agent"??

FYI -- I also got a follow-up e-mail from the manager at the ES apologizing and letting me know that when I next check in they will be 100% compliant with the new policy. Very good CS.

Yet another follow up E-Mail from Hilton. Wow... I think they're really doing a great job with CS:

January My Way Account Summary email

I almost fell off my chair today when I received my January My Way Account Summary email and it said:

As of December 22, 2005, your Hilton HHonors account balance is 4,681,324 points.

I clicked the provided link to the Hhonors site to see if it said the same, but alas it showed my true balance. For a moment there, I had visions of a

Me Too!!!!

Pat,

I didn't quite fall off my chair tonight, but I had a large laugh, and called my wife over, to read the email from HHonors, so as to confirm that I wasn't hallucinating. They were much more generous with your point balance, as mine only showed 1,984,058 HHonors points in my account. I had visions of trips all over, transferring points to my FF account, flying J class, staying at exclusive hotels in far away places (New Zealand here we come, my dream vacation).

Of course, the point total was a bit higher then my actual total, so I went to my HHonors account to see if anything had changed, and it showed the correct, real, actual, point totals. There went my grandious plans. But wow, what a quick letdown!!!

No, I didn't plan on using the ridiculous increase in my point totals, as I'm sure Hilton will quickly correct the errors. But you're correct, in that it made my heart skip a beat or two. And you beat me here to post about the error.

Has anyone else received the "slightly" inflated point total in their current HHonors My Way email???
