I figured that'd be the worse-case scenario!

This is a very old thread! I'm not sure if it's best to answer my question on this 'definitive' thread or start a new one, but here goes...

I made a 5 night reward booking, followed by a 4 night paid booking. Today I read that this would count as one reward stay, and I would get no points. What is Hilton's current policy regarding combining a reward booking and a cash booking? Do the points for the paid nights post, or do I need to rework it somehow? I would be grateful for any recent experiences, thanks!

It will count as one stay of 9 nights and you will get the normal points for the paid nights. The policy of getting no points changed around 2017

Refresh my memory about earning pts for a stay

Not any unusual words/terms to pull up in search....

I can't recall if/where I heard this, but wanted to make sure before making a big mistake:

If I have a paid night followed by a points/certificate night (or vice versa), will I get all my points for the paid night, or will it all become a points stay with no earning?

Would it matter if one night is from my account, one night from my husband's?

My experience doing this has always been that, while the back-to-back stays (the paid one and then the redemption) are converted in the system to a single continuous stay, at the end of the day points are earned on base spend - the amount of money that I spent with Hilton, regardless of what other currency (points) may have been involved. So a stay never "converts" to being ineligible in its entirety or such.

I can't speak as to what involving another person's account would do, though.

Some years ago a points stay combined with a paid stay lead to nothing being earned but that changed some time ago. Now there is no issue combining the two; you will earn points.

Thank you, I knew it was nagging in the recesses of my brain.

Correct on the points being earned based on spend but fwiw, a property's PMS system does not convert the stays into a single continuous stay. Any type of redemption stay is made by HH as a separate reservation that must be manually checked in/out by someone on property day of.

Sorry, I wasnt clear. For front desk purposes you are 100% right. I meant that for point earning purposes they are shown in my activity as a single merged stay.

Just to clarify, do reward nights count towards accumulative nights stayed?

Yes, I used two free night certs last year. One in Oregon and one in CA. Both counted towards accumulative nights.
