Skip the Conrad, no recognition as Gold but much more importantly it has poor location IMO for tourists. No activities/stores to walk to from this property.

Which Cairo property?

Gang,

Quick question... trying to get most up-to-date information.

We are finalizing a tour to Egypt in November. I have asked to stay at a Hilton property while in Cairo.

Can I get recommendation on whether or not I should go with the Nile Hilton or Ramses Hilton?

Also, if the Conrad became an option would that trump the other two Hiltons? I have never stayed at a Conrad.

Thanks in advance.

i would recommend the Nile Hilton...the location is better than the Ramses. The exec lounge is great and overlooks the Nile. Ask for Nile view room if you are asking for upgrade to exec floor. Else they will put in a city view.

I agree...go for the Nile Hilton and request the upgrade.

Nile preferable

I prefer the Nile for the lounge views and the friendly. Ramses in on the Nile (river) but set further back. Additionally the Nile Hilton is adjacent to the Museum which you must visit and spend a minimum 4 hours to do it justice.

The Nile also has a dedicated check in counter for Golds+ on the 12th floor and the girls are always very obliging.

Come on get real, there is no diference between the Nile and the Ramses for distance from the Nile (river) the difference in distance to the museum may be 50 yards, Ramses has a dedicated desk, somewhere on the exec floors, not sure which, and the bar in the Ramses is vastly superior.
The exec lounge breakfast room has an excellent river view, as do many of the rooms

I, too, would opt for the Nile Hilton. Great exec floor and lounge, great view of Nile-you are right there, across the street(busy!) As for the museum, again, it is right out the back door and you need to spend a minimum of one full day. What treasures! Do not forget to do the mummy room on the second floor. Anyway the Nile Hilton had an extremly friendly staff on exec floor. Have fun!!!

Thanks for all the information.

Any thoughts on the Conrad?

I have never stayed at a Conrad before.

Museum distance? Conrad

Norri

Can I buy some realestate from you particularly measured by the same ruler you use for the extra distance from the Ramses to the Museum compared to the Nile Hilton

wharvey

I have stayed at the Conrad once. It is a newer property than Nile or Ramses but located in a primarily residential neighbourhood.

Yea, I would say closer to 250 yds. Basically, going north, you have the Nile Hilton, the museum, the highway, and then Ramses Hilton. Since the entrance to the museum is on the Nile Hilton side, you just go out the back door, turn left, and walk 100yds. From the Ramses, you must cross the highway (NO EASY TASK!!!), and walk around the museum. After watching some of the death-defying moves people had to make to cross the highway, I was thankful I chose the Nile Hilton!!!
I was on the exec floor(June 2004), and the lounge was OK. Good breakfast; evening snacks varied day by day from OK to almost non-existent. Thought the room was quite worn looking. Didn't think to ask for a Nile view room, so was placed in a city view room. I would request a Nile view room next time.

Its great !

I write from my room on the 20th (one of Exec Floors), after being upgraded (as an HH VIP Gold) from a stupidly cheap pre-pay USD$119+ rate. I am able to do so as this is, according to the poster in reception, the first hotel in Egypt to have wireless internet access !

Hotel is very nice, room is great, lounge is very nice (with long balcony with tables and chairs), staff have been great, and is VASTLY superious to the Semiramis Intercontinental where I stayed a few days ago.

Location is also fine, 5 - 10 minutes further down the same road, by the Nile, as the two Hiltons.

Oh, and they have given me a 6pm check-out !

Conrads are generally very good in my experience - Brussels is excellent.

Ok 50 yds plus the walk around to the front of the museum, my point was it was no big difference, If crossing the road is going to be a problem you will be able to explore the wonders of the Nile Hilton and the egyptian museum and then your stuck.
I still say the difference is negligible and the bar in the Ramses is miles better even without he happy hour

I stayed at the Ramses in early may. This was a trip to celebrate my mothers 70th birthday and the hotel even had a cake on the room when we arrived. I was very happy with the stay, good lounge, great staff.

The hotel also had a few good restaurants, one chinese and one italian. I tried them both and can recommend it. If you would like to eat a bit cheaper there is a big shopping mall next doors(which I believe is owned by Hilton).

You can see the egyptian museum from the hotel but we actually took a taxi to the hotel. Cost something like 1$ or possible 2$.

Have a nice time in Cairo, its a very intresting city.

If you like I can pm you the mail address of the GM of the Ramses.

If you can spring the right rate, i wold also recommend the Conrad. I've stayed at a dozen or so of them and the Cairo Conrad is among the best run when i was there last year. Small pool upstairs but the rooms were great. I moved there from staying at the Cairo Marriott and there was only a $15 a night difference and it was worth every penny. Remember it's a business hotel so a bit more sterile than the other two Hilton's which i would agree, the Nile Hilton being better. I'll have to try and remember where you can walk near the museum (remember to turn off your flash on your camera or get busted...) to get some of the best gelato/ice cream and pastries that i found in all of Cairo. Very refreshing. And whatever you do, leave Cairo and head for Luxor. If going there, try to eat or stay at the Le Meridien. The cafe in the center courtyard was the best food i had in that area.

Have a great time and we found that the taxi drivers and people were very, very kind,

I will be in Cairo in late February. I think I have decided that the Hilton Nile would be best for me due to the location information above.
However.....how does the Hilton Nile compare to the Sheraton Properties?
I see that there are 3: Sheraton Heliopolis Hotel-Towers & Casino, Sheraton Cairo Hotel-Towers & Casino and the Sheraton Royal Gardens.

All of the Hiltons and Sheratons are priced so low that it is hard to believe so price would not be a condideration. How about locations...I am not on business so will be a tourist.

I have gold status for both Hilton and Starwood. It is sometimes easier to get upgraded at Hilton...but not always.
