What is the difference between HGI and Hilton?

Realistically, not based on what the H website says...

Thanks.

Garden Inn's are not 'full service'. Therefore, you *may* not see the amenities like restaurant, room service, etc. that you get in a Hilton. Of course, this varies all over the place, but generally speaking that's about it.

HGI is Hilton Lite http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Hi,

At the two HGI's I havebeen in ( Scottsdale and San Mateo) they have had; Microwave, Fridge (very handy during the summer!!) Business Centre with Free access to the Internet!!

Restaurant prices are quite reasonable and cheaper than at the Hiltons, self service laundry machines ($1 each) a Pavillion Pantry that is quite reasonably priced.

Overall the two stays have been excellent)
(upgraded to a Parlour Suite at HGI Scottsdale)

Regards
TBS

Although I like HGI, I've yet to come across one with a garden, but they do have a small refrigerator and microwave oven in the rooms. At least most of the HGI are fairly new, unlike some of the well worn Hiltons. Usually no full service retaurant at HGI but who eats at the hotel anyway unless they have to? I've often found that in larger cities, rooms at HGI and Hilton for that matter can be less expensive than even Hampton Inn.

What is the difference between HGI and Hilton?

About $75 a night.

Well, I'm staying at the HGI in Tampa because of location. It sounds decent... and I dont htink I'll miss the 'hoity-toity' restaurant.

Thanks for the input.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a garden in any of the HGIs that I have stayed in.

Excellent choice, installer. Great hotel in a terrific location in Ybor City, walking distance to all the nightlife. Free shuttle to/from the airport/downtown. Free business center, free local and 800 calls. Great GM, relatively young guy named Teddy Roqué.

On a more general note, the difference between Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn is that you pretty much can't go wrong with HGI... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

a HGI is like a Hampton Inn except you get a microwave and fridge but you have to pay for your continental breakfast. Free laptop connection in your room which is very nice.

HGI is Hilton's answer to Courtyard -- and it beats it hands down because of the fridge and microwave. Also they were developed in CA, and have some sort of open "airy" meeting lounge. In Phila, it is upstairs and near the bar. In Alb, it is a regular lobby lounge, but the hotel has very high cielings. Both hotels, had the pantry, but they also both had restaurants, as well as pools!

BTW, Hampton beats Fairfield, and Homewood beats Residence Inn.

Obviously, Hilton has diversified quite a bit with the purchase of the Cendant (?) properties, and for the better!

I'd say HGI is a tightly controlled product and a regular Hilton, well we see a wide range. Correct?

Promus, not Cendant. I wish though some decent chain would buy at least some Cendant properties (Ramada, Days Inn, Travelodge, etc).

Only a low end HGI and a top end Hampton come close... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

That the ticket. At least one can now earn AA miles with stays at those properties. But I agree, some of the Ramadas are not too bad, at least at the level of a Hampton, and their guest program stinks.
