Why the upgrade to Gold?

I'm a silver because i have the hilton amex (also have the hilton visa); my last paid stay at the hilton family was at a Doubletree in Chicago last August (stayed 2 nights at the SF Hilton last month on an award stay), and yesterday i got a letter saying i was being upgraded to gold because i was a valued customer; well, it's nice being valued, but, i wonder why i was updgraded? seems like gold must be a dime a dozen if i got it .... tls

Gold is a dime a dozen, but congratulations...It's another Gold!

Enjoy the benefits!

Yes, I'm wondering too.

I have no status on any airline or hotel. No fancy credit card. The only points I've earned on my HHonors account have been from the quarterly updates.

Yet, I got a letter today instantly upgrading me to Gold status.

Oh well, a nice shiny gold card will gleam in my travel wallet now.
